I'm not talking about coffee shops, but actual galleries. If you do display, how did you get your start?

  1. put together a portfolio of your work, something small that you can leave with people. go by every gallery you see that displays work like yours. ask to see whoever runs it. drop your work off. that's how i did it. i played the percentages.

i also showed in coffee shops and clothing stores, even bars. the more exposure the better. the more it's out there, the more likely you are of someone important seeing it.

show your work to everyone, enter contests, and network!

    go! get out there!

  2. participate in local juried shows. Just apply. Get in about half the time. Most work to find out when and where to apply, check for call for artists.

  3. If you want the jumpstart, I highly recommend attending many gallery show openings. If you go often, you will become a familiar face and eventually speak about your work. Perhaps they will take interest in your work and give you a chance to participate in their galleries.
