  1. For both.  I love all sciences.  I used to watch the old fifties sci-Fi movies with their generic scientists and didn't at the time know what the science specialties were.  I just pictured myself in a lab, wearing a white coat.  When I started to college, I considered Art and Biology.  I didn't believe I could make a living with an Art degree and finally ended up choosing Chemistry.  I sometimes wish I had gone for Vulcanology or Astronomy.

  2. For two reasons:

    1) the insight into the inner mechanisms of nature.

    2) (I am not proud here) the power.

PS Money? I am not daring enough.

  3. i love science AND my money is great--so i guess i'm lucky i love my job and get paid well to do it...but i'm in industry, not academia.

  4. I don't do science, but I love it!  Actually, it's the lack of money that made me go in a different direction!  :(

  5. Personally I do it for the enjoyment and because it interests me! As for the money...well you can get a decent wage in science but it's not brilliant. I would expect to get about £20k when i graduate.

  6. Certainly not for the money!  Money, what money?

  7. I love it, but a professor at universities can make about $100,000 a year (in Canada and the States).

If you go far and get your PhD you can make decent money at a school, or at a big pharm/gene company. It depends on your major, the job market, and current tech, and your level of education (BSc vs PhD). There aren't a crazy amount of non-academic HIGH paying jobs for biologist who majored in, say, ecology (although there are plenty of government jobs).  Chemists can probably make decent money, and some biologist. Statisticians and math students probably get jobs for most fields.

That said, a person with a BSc isnt going to have that many more opportunities that someone with a BA. (Although it really depends on your degree focus)
