I keep saying "More tea vicar?" it is a lovely expression after laughing at getting angry over nothing, but does anyone actually have tea with a vicar these days?

  1. Actually I did only a couple of weeks ago (except that he is a rector, since I live in a rural benefice).  He was trying to talk me into returning to the flock after my escape to Rome.

My Catholic arch-diocese had a vicar, but he caught something and died.  Maybe off a teacup?

  2. I agree with you hon - it's a great expression! Unfortunately I do not have tea with the vicar - I think he may object to my potty mouthed outbursts (which do occur on occasion!!) so to answer your question... NO I don't! (great question tho!) x*x

  3. no, only absinthe with the bishop

  4. I'm one of those elderly matrons who regularly has tea with the vicar and lunch the last friday of the month, and our vicar is a long haired guitar playing hippy and one of the funniest people I know

  5. The vicar's wife, probably.

  6. I'm American, so I guess that expression would not apply to me.  However, when I saw your question, all I could think of was that great British movie "Keeping Mum".

  7. Yes! If you go after services there are these elderly matrons that bake cakes and other goodies for the vicar. Admitted, apart from the food I doubt you'd have a good time.

  8. Most of the vicars I know prefer stout, but I'd share a cup of tea if they asked.
