    My uncle in Idaho when I was 14. That was 34 years ago.

My daddy, and I learned on a stick shift .I drove for the first time at age 12 .Learned to drive a home delivery milk truck standing up in 7th & 8th grade.Made a big $1.00 during the week before school, 6am to 8:30am AND $5.00 on Sat. 4am till 3pm.That was a great time to be brought up, not like this rat race.

  11. Yes.  I spent about a year reading books about driving and highway code before I took my first lesson.  I had lessons from a driving school in London, in and around Fulham, Putney, Chelsea and Kensington.  After that, you are ready for just about anything.

  12. I did take some lessons and then failed my test. So I just drove for about a year and then took the test again and passed so I suppose I taught myself.  My  mum had a license which she got at the start of the war when they cancelled tests so I taught her to drive while I was still on a provisional

  17. I drive quite a bit. I have my dad and a drivers ed teacher to thank. I don't know to whom I owe the most for dry cleaning bills:)

  18. My father taught me. Spent about 2 days driving along a straight road. He would turn it around and I would drive back.

    Finally progressed to the turn round and on to longer journeys.

    Then booked a driving school for 6 lessons, to get out of the bad habits Dad taught me, and passed first time.Mind you that was 45 years ago.

  21. Yes. My uncle was the first person to let me try, but my parents, mostly my father, did the rest of the work. I had to re-teach myself to drive after moving from a very rural area (9300 people) to a metropolitan area (about 6 million) because it takes very different driving habits safely avoid colliding with and being hit by other people. (Example: I have been rear-ended twice in two weeks because I stopped at the yellow lights instead of speeding through them)

  22. My dad taught me first at home in the fields at about 13 and then again at 15 yrs and 8 mths on the roads. He was a good teacher and had a lot of patience then.

  24. Yes,I practised on a old M F tractor, on what is now Charlton's training ground in New Eltham, It was then owned by Unilever, 15 years old bombing around with a set of five in tow, but it stood me in good stead for my test which I managed to pass first go.
