I use TV programmes to help associate and memorise things. 'Ah yes, that was the day that 'Time Team' found a fragment of an earthenware pot that might have belonged to Aurelius Deximus, Roman Governor of Milton Keynes although history records that at that time, he was First Lord of the Admiralty in Genoa for two hundred years.

  1. Don't we all?

  2. usually a funny visual image helps me remember someone's name

Like a guy named Campbell, I look at his face & I "see" those really rosy cheeks _Campbell Soup kids.. never forgot his name...

Sometimes It has mixed me up because I used the same image for a Dr White and a Doctor Miller   (never saw either one face to face - just phone calls)  and I guess I imagined a Miller all covered with white flour for both of them... oops!

I don't think about doing this, it just happens.... but I can remind myself to do it if it's really important.

  3. What was the question?

  4. I use certain mneonics as a memory aid. I don't worry too much about remembering though because I can usually remember what I am going to need again - as with dream recall, it is just a matter of being interested really. And I am interested in so many things. Some mnemonics, like the one to remember star magnitudes, must be intended for really smart people because I find it almost as easy to remember the actual scale of star magnitude than the longwinded, easy to forget, mnemonic for it.

That is all I have to say at this time.

  5. If I do, it's not a conscious thing on my part.  I'm sure maybe I do, but, it's not an "across-the-board" tool, but just whatever seems to feel best in the given situation.  God Bless you.

  6. You really must stop using those drugs they are not helping your mental capacity at all

  7. In truth I do,some times consciously and sometimes not,but it helps,as I forget such alot these days due to illness.

  8. What do you use to memorize the TV programmes? They are so eminently forgetable. The question about the order of planets cropped up so frequently in pub quizzes that I invented my own mnemonic.  "Sunday morning, very early, make jam sponge.  Use new pot." Then the astronomers decided to nuke Pluto and I was back to square one.
