I personally do not. Why not get the real facts instead of false ones.

  1. Historical fiction is my favorite book genre. True the stories are BASED on fact but it could easily have been the truth which makes the story all the more interesting - speculation.

My favorite historical fiction writers are Conn Igulden and David Gemell (who died before completing his awesome historical fiction series of troy :( ), plus many more.

If anyone reading this is looking for an historical fiction book to read then i recommend any by those two authors.

  2. There not false facts there stories based in real places in real times.

  3. The facts are not necessarily inaccurate in historical fiction.  For example take George Macdonald Fraser's magnificient 'flashman' novels in which all the historical details are quite accurate, his books were painstakingly researched.

When I was young I liked the novels of Jean Plaidy very much, and although she tended to take a romantic view of history and concentrate on the love lives of kings and queens etc, the historical facts in her books are generally very accurate, I have read many non-fiction history books on the periods she dealt with, and I have never come across anything that suggests that the historical facts given in her books were less than accurate.

Currently, I quite enjoy reading historical whodunnits.  I particularly like Margaret Frazer's 'Sister Frevisse' series, which is set in the 15th century, and which as far as I can tell is quit accurate in the historical information it gives.

I think good historical novels can be very helpful in giving you an idea of the period you are reading about.  I know I retain much informationa bout history that I absorbed from Jean Plaidy's novels when I was young, and that I have built on since by reading non-fiction.  There'sno reason why you cannot enjoy both historical fiction and historical fact.

  4. Isn't this a polls and surveys question?

  5. What's a false fact?

  6. Love them.

It really depends on the book and author you're reading. If it is a subject of great detail and there are documents dating back ages ago with bountiful amounts of information...then the author really couldn't go wrong, but if it's some topic that never was really cleared up - it makes things a little more exciting, exploring the unknown, and all that.

If it is written by some moron who decided to write that Elizabeth I of England was actually a man and born in Turkey, it would not be a book I would continue. You can generally tell, after reading several historical fictions, which are going to be true to history and a good read....while other books tend to be dreadful from the start.

    Cheers!
