For these 5 empires.

Sumerians

Babylonians

Phoenician

assyrians

Hittites

Sumerians - technically was never an empire. Consisted of city-states that were based along the rivers of Euphrates and Tigris. Later conquered by Semitic barbarians from the north.

Babylonians - Originally a city-state that expanded into the former Sumerian city-states. Famous for their Code of Law. Later destroyed by the Assyrians.

Phoenicians - Skilled seafarers that traded throughout the Mediterranean and Europe. Established numerous colonies in north Africa and Asian Minor and also invented the first alphabet. Fate unknown (most likely destroy by the Sea Peoples).

Assyrians - Known for their cruelty and military might. Invented siege engines to conquer North Sumeria. Rival with the Babylonians. Fell to rebellion by their conquered subjects.

Hittites - An empire situated in southern Turkey. Famous for their knowledge of iron working. Later assimilated by the Assyrians.
