  1. Of course. Obviously I only like the Yankees because they have 26 world championships and a $200 million payroll. Why else would you like a team? (sarcasm)

I'm constantly branded as a bandwagon fan who only likes Jeter's butt. Even my gym teachers were like, "Oh, you're a Yankees fan? I bet Derek Jeter is your favorite player." Then they chuckled like they were so witty.

My grade rested in their hands (and I have this thing about talking back to authority figures in school), so I bit back some comments about Lou Gehrig being my all-time favorite player, how I'm a Jorge Posada kind of girl, and the real reason behind Yankees fans liking Derek Jeter (hint: it's not his body).

  2. Yes. Especially by clueless morons who think it's cool to insult others just b/c of the team they like.

  3. Yes i have...im living in California right now and when i wear my Red Sox tee i sometimes get called out but i do go into full on ***** mode if they annoy me..lol =] It is so much better if those judgemental people just keep their mouth shut....

  4. h**l yes. I'm a diehard north side Sox fan, which means I get persecuted by annoying Cubs fans who don't know baseball well.

  5. Yeah, all the time. I have people telling me to take my A's hat off but it usually comes from people who like the Giants. I usually tell them to compare our record with theirs. Both of us suck, but no one in the NL west except maybe the Diamondbacks and Dodgers fans have a right to talk trash about the A's.

  6. ohio and michigan the longest rivalry in college football. heck i don't even like football, but when i drive through ohio with my car(license in mich) it's just plain horrible sometimes.

  7. Not really. At least no one calls me anything. Some people make fun of me because of how the A's are doing, I pretty much just ignore it. But, everyone pretty much around where I live is an A's fan, so no one at least where I live judge me. But, no one says I'm a bandwagoner. I'm definitely not a bandwagoner (i like the A's). But, if people do judge, I think it's not right. They don't even know a person and they just go judging someone because of a certain teams, they don't even know you. That's just not right.

  8. Oh, all the time.

When people see a a fairly young girl like myself wearing Red Sox stuff, they automatically think that I've hopped on the Red Sox bandwagon. I guess that's understandable, but it's annoying that they jump to conclusuions like that.

The other day at Meijers, the cashier saw my Red Sox t-shirt and said, "So, been a fan since October 2004?" I wasn't in the best mood that day so I went into my full "Don't Accuse Me Of Being A Bandwagon Fan" mode until the cashier actually apologized.

Some days when people make comments like that, I let it slide, some days I get really defensive about it. But in the end, I know I'm a true, diehard Red Sox fan and that's really all that matters.

  9. Oh sure! but this is part of the fun being a sports fan.  I live in Chicago and we have one of the best pro sports scene in America.  Most Cubs and Sox fans hate each other but this is the right thing to do.  There is no such thing as a person that likes both teams.  Because then the question is what if the CUbs play the Sox in the World Series?? You have to pick a side.  I'm sure that it is the same in NY, CA, texas etc.  I personally can't stand bandwagon fans of any team or sport.  The Cubs probably have the most bandwagon fans in the city and this happens to be one of the knocks that we always get.  That Sox fans know more about the game and are true fans and the CUbs fans are there just to mingle and go to the bars after the game. Also the Sox fans think that they have had the better franchise because they won 1 WS in the last 80 plus years(and even before they won the WS in 2005).  Truth is that both franchises were equally as bad in terms of their history but the Cubs just happen to have the longest WS drought in sports history.  Fact is though, the Cubs could never win a WS or win 5 WS's in a row.  The cities rivalies will always remain but GOD I wish that they would win it this year!! Losers no MORE!! lol

  10. Who doesn't? Everyone's going to be judged no matter what. So yes is the answer to your question.

  11. Constantly, trying living in California & being a Yankee fan. Most "fans" dont have a d**n clue what baseball is or who is on the team other that Vlad & K-Rod. People who say "You are just a bandwagoner or frontrunner" my question always is to them "Name 3 people on your team who didnt make the all star team...or name one guy who is a middle reliver!" 9 times out of 10 i get a "i dunno man, who cares. At least i am not a frontrunner!" WTF?

  12. Occasionally. Thankfully, I grew up in Brooklyn around a bunch of other Yankees fans (and some Mets fans, of course), so there wasn't much judgment. But once I left the city, a few fans had their things to say.

A few Orioles fans thought I was a "bandwagoner" until I broke down old bad Yankees players I grew up watching and rooting for in the '80s. A few Red Sox fans I met asked me why I wasn't a Mets fan, thinking that because Brooklyn is closer to Shea Stadium than Yankee Stadium, I was betraying my "true" team. One guy from Florida even told me when I was living in Virginia that I should be an Orioles or Nats fan because those were the local teams and I was no longer a New Yorker, thus I was bandwagoning. Hilarious! He either didn't get that once you're a New Yorker, you're ALWAYS a New Yorker or he didn't like that I rooted for the Yankees.

Yeah, I got hit with all of that. The "arrogant" thing (which baffles me since I'm usually pretty humble), the bandwagon thing, the "your favorite player is Jeter" thing, blah, blah. It happens to all of us. I'm sure it's worse for non-NYC Yankees fans. But my advice? Keep doing what you do and shake the haters off. You know who your team is.

  13. Unfortunately we will all get judged by our teams - ridiculed when they do well, ridiculed even more when they succeed.

But, as long as you are open to fans of other teams, you can also meet a lot of great people as baseball fans, and you'll find that you have a lot more in common (baseball) than you don't (which team you cheer for).

So, while being judged can be annoying and sometimes even hurtful, try to stay focused on the good people you meet and let them enrich your life. At the same time, ignore the negative haters/judgers who only want to bring other people down.

  14. I wear something with a Yankee theme pretty much every day(jerseys or t-shirts & living in Northernn Va, I get many looks & comments almost every day.  Since the Nationals & Orioles are the 2 local teams in my area & I have no problem with either of these teams.  My little league team was called the Yankees my first year in little league(1970) & been a fan since

  15. Yes I get it all the time. I live in Dallas and am a huge Orioles fan, don't get too much about that, it seems not too many people around here care about baseball. Come football season it is different, try being a die hard Redskins fan in Dallas TX.

  16. Yes. Apparently the Texas heat has fried my brain.

  17. Yes, very much.  People think I'm a heavy drinker just because I'm a Brewers fan.  Times can be very hard...

  18. Yes because every time i write My Favorite Team Is Nationals everyone puts me thumbs down and it's always a Cubs fan or Yankees.

  19. Yes. Spend a day on the Brewers board with a Brewers logo when the Cubs win a game.

They'll call you a drunk, fat, cheesehead hillbilly whose team hasn't been in the playoffs for 26 years.

I spend most of my time here, so when they see my few posts there, I'm automatically a bandwagon fan.

  20. I'm a Cubs fan living in Northern Illinois.

The only time I get c**p is on here or in person from Cardinals and White Sox fans.  Personally, I think it's fun to hear junk from people.  It keeps things interesting and gives me a chance to fling it right back at them (my brother is a die-hard Cardinals fan and it's always a great day when we whomp up on the sh*t-birds!

  21. The most I've ever gotten judged is "Why do you cheer for such awful teams?"...

As an Orioles and Rangers fan, people generally don't say I'm a bandwagoner.

With Yankee fans, I've met a bunch of people that just like them for the name, but I've also met people like you that are true fans and have cheered for them their whole lives.
