I mean I know what I like and what I dont, but I always find myself thinking what would "so and so" do, and do it that way, like ppl I admire, characters from tv shows and things that I like the way they do things. Like everything is some kind of learnt and practiced behaviour.

for example I dont run my life by what ppl think or even worry about it, but I know how I want to be perceived and live by that.

is that a good or bad way to do things?

  1. Well, I don't think that is possible to think what you would do once you start acting because it would be odd for you to see other people's responses to your odd behavior.

Think about your situation, and then you might feel some feeling, and you will know what to do. You mustn't think or reason what somebody thinks or feels about it until you actually analyzed situation.

After doing some of this you might feel confident relying on your own thought, and feeling which may help you create your own character.

I also think that kiki j, "read above" is wrong. You can't reasonably think of who you are until you actually understood you character. If you start questioning your self you might start feeling anxious and that start looking for the answer from somewhere else. If you questiong yourself you might also just decide something wrong, which will result in acting again.

One good way is to find a partner that would be okay with anything you do, and wouldn't pressure on your decisions, but would be interested in your decisions.

  2. Next time, think what YOU would do.

  3. Well in your case if you run your life by what you want people to precieve that means you run your life being ruled by what people think of you. Iy is like you are living in a moive and the director are people that aren't you. So obviously you don't feel like yourself, or you feel like you are pretending.

What you need to do is stop thinking about what other people would do or think and start thinking about what you think and what you would do. Ask those old cliches "who am i?" and what do i want?" and "what do i need?"

  4. say just by simple imitation you don't become the person you fantasize. This will lead you to live in perennial pretense and fantasy. Though some amount of dreaming is good but complete submission to a dream world is detrimental to mental health. Develop your own worth and create your own identity because you cant live with a borrowed identity for eternity. Of course there is no harm if you idolize some one and emulate him to develop your own self its well and good. Living a pretentious life may cause 'split personality' syndrome . So better emulate, idolize and don't fantasize.
