Do you ever get a thumbs down when you dont think you should have?

Do you ever look back at your answer and when you have given a good honest answer get a thumbs down. Then when you have given an answer without thinking to much a simple yes or no answer you get a thumbs up. Some how does not make any sense.

Yes, but those same answers have often received best answer from the asker (and that's what counts).

If the answer helps the asker it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Yes. I get many more thumbs down lately.

I think part of this is because I have a lot of points. In addition, I get thumbs down when other anwerers assume that I have copied another answer. When I see that several others have also been given a thumbs down, I know I am in good company. However, I also think that some give them indiscriminately.

I try not to take it personally.

No, I don't think that has happened to me, however, I did get reported for abuse because I didn't respond in the form of an answer, they said it was just a statement. Doesn't surprise me though, it was in the law enforcement section, there will always be huge differences of opinion there. But to report it for that reason is somewhat childish.

Take a side-step and ask yourself how you react to criticism from people you know? You evaluate the criticism according to your evaluation of the critic, don't you? e.g. It is one thing if your little brother says you look "Icky" but something else if your boyfriend asks "Where on earth did you get that dress?"

You have no idea who gave or why you got the thumbs down, so why sweat it?

I've noticed this sometimes, and I always think to myself that it's not the quality of my answer that someone is voting on, it's whether they like my answer or hate it regardless of whether it's a really good answer.

I try to answer what I think are serious, or semiserious questions, and I try to avoid answering questions that seem like the asker is just trying to be a jerk, because I don't want to reward that dumb behavior. But sometimes if an asker is joking and wants other people to join in the joke I will answer those too.

yeah, that gets me annoyed, especially since i mostly stick to this education/homework help section and people give me thumbs down for equations i solved correctly.
