Do you ever narrate your own life?

I'm curious as to whether or not this is common. I have done just this since I was very young, probably 9 or 10. I narrate to myself everything I do, probably all the time, but only notice it if I am especially tired or doing repetative actions. The only time this isn't occuring is while I am reading a book or watching T.V. for extended periods of time. Is this neurotic, or common?

  1. ya.......and no

  2. It is your mind's way of understanding your interaction with the world.  Perfectly normal.

  3. Um yeah I guess. Its common. Its fun too. Peter Griffin from Family Guy did it. So I guess it is.

  4. yes! I used to do it walking home from the bus stop (sometimes what I was actually doing, sometimes making up stories). it's not a continuous thing though; I don't do it all the time or even every day or every week. but from time to time i find myself narrating what's going on. maybe preparing my autobiography?

  5. amazing question.

I actually watched a special which showcased different people with similar brain damage.

turned out, they couldn't explain things they did or why they did them or even what they did.... they just did, almost like on auto pilot. walking and talking and everything. and sometimes they just didn't quite follow conversations like others.

they all shared the same damage on the right sides of their brains.... the logical side., near the top and center.

seems most people normal narrator their actions (actually reactions) and gives a story to your self as to why you did what you did or why you should plan ahead. almost everyone does it but doesn't always listen to it directly and consciously.

come claim this is the part of the brain that gives us a sense of self and could possibly be the explanation to why we feel we have a soul.

oddly enough they referred to the section of the brain as the "Narrator"

I couldn't find the documentary for the longest time for the time, found it then lost it again.

  6. Never out loud! That's would be strange. In my head, definitely, all the time.

  7. like J.D. on SCRUBS right

I am introspective and sometimes theorize as to my actions based on a hypothetical tangent of real events, but as a daily norm I don't narrate the way J.D. does.

  8. still not, I have a long story to tell and the time is very short, physically facility are very less, I can't narrate
