Do you ever think our football clubs might be moved overseas?

With our clubs being bought out by foreign companies, a lot of players coming from other countries do you think that eventually when the fan base is spread much wider that, in fact, the clubs might be moved elsewhere. The fans in the UK would still be able to watch games via TV etc.?

  1. It would never happen. English supporters don't support a team just to watch them on TV.

English supporters want to go to live games. If a team was moved it would lose its English support. Also if a club is moved to another country it would not be able to play in the premier league.

So no it will never happen.

  2. i'm not sure i fully understand your question

but.. what will happen.. like basketball.. is the league will expand overseas. wouldn't expect teams to move.. instead.. more teams. that sorta thing

  3. I think at the moment its unthinkable that that would happen.

While attendances are still extremely high there's no reason to even consider such a move.

  4. Hope so, we could then all concentrate on things which actually matter.

  5. This idea has been mooted several times with some clubs in favour of a move. Shame that day would ever come. There are still thousands of fans who need to watch their teams play live.

  6. With the amount of foreign money in the game today, anything is possible.

Also, the Premiership sold out to Rupert Murdoch years ago and if he tells a club to move abroad, that club will go.

    Watch this space.

  7. Naaa,

If an owner decide to move a team out ot a city, the city will still have an option to have another team. And the team being moved will have new identity. For example if you move liverpool to tampa fl, the team will no longer be liverpool of Liverpool England,  it will loose its identity and most of its fan base, therefore liverpool will be left w/o a team and anyone with money can have a new liverpool for the people of liverpool.

  8. No I don't think so

think back to the feeble attempts of the EPL to have an additional match abroad. something that was shot down by all regional football associations including UEFA,

There is a theoretical possibility if football became franchised like American Football (ie the right to play in the league is held by a company) AND a European league was set up I could see a franchise moving to another European city.

If that hapens I doubt that existign fans will continue to support the new club.... think what hapend when Wimbledon moved to Mlton Keynes.. the fans didn't move with the club (or at least not all did), and thats a move of 30..50 miles?
