Do you ever think your dogs wonder just what the heck you're doing?

I was playing fetch with Eli a little bit ago. He has one of those balls that glows in the dark. It isn't small enough that I ever would have considered it a choking hazard. Well, he jumped up and caught the ball, I bent over because I knew he was coming right back to drop it at my feet. When he reaches me (like 2 seconds later), he's choking, or so I thought. Well, I instinctively grabbed him and started pounding on his back with one hand and stuck my other hand in his mouth to retrieve the lodged ball. He just looked at me like "WHAT?" but he took it without trying to get away. He had dropped the ball on his way over to me. I guess he just had to cough or something.

Do you dogs ever look at you like you're crazy?

When my dog who hasn't gone through oodles and oodles of training (he's been to 5 classes) lets me do this to him without offering to growl, bite, paw, etc., it makes me wonder why other people have problems just looking at their dog without them being "aggressive" (word used loosely).

  1. All the time. I'll start talking to myself and they'll look at me like "wow, I sure picked a weird one." It's fun!

I do agree about the aggressive thing. My dogs have never really been to a formal training class, and are fantastic. I've never had a problem, and I've done things like fall on them, pull their tail (on accident!), and blow in their faces (that's a favorite). They take it all in stride.

They're not well bred, either. My Sam came from a puppy mill, Lexy (avatar) is backyard bred, and Holly is a shelter rescue.

  2. Of course. Like when I prefer eating off of the plate instead of the floor. I KNOW that confuses them. I've taken plates from cabinets and set them on the floor with a piece of kibble on them and the dogs knock the kibble off then eat it.

Opening doors is an odd one too. "Why open it when you can bite it until there is a hole big enough for you to fit in it?"

    OHY!

  3. Hahaha that made me laugh. :)

  4. Milly never seems puzzled by anything I do. She very laid back and takes everything in her stride, anymore laid back and she'd fall over, lol

Milly's never been to any training classes, just the basic training off me, but she lets me do anything to her and never seems to question it.

When her ears need cleaning (twice a week) or she needs her ear drops, l only have to get the ear cleaner or drops and say,

"Milly, it's time to do your ears" and she goes into the living room and lays down on the rug ready for it doing. Once one side is done l say,

"right Milly, other ear", and she gets up and turns round so l can get to her other ear.

She's really good at doing what l ask.

It's just when she goes for her anal glands doing, her bottom appears to be superglued to the floor when she sees the vet put his rubber gloves on!  Can't say l blame her, lol

  5. ALL the dogs know when they are going to get the glands done..I get my gloves, and they all have lead butt right *that* second, and I have to hold teh bums up and work at it...fun

  6. My Poodle looks at me when I'm on the computer, looks at the screen and looks at me! She's probably thinking aw poor humans it don't take much to entertain them, aw poor things! lol
