Do you ever use humor to cover pain?

I and many of my family members crack jokes all the time, but it seems to me there are very few serious moments when there is a painful or difficult situation. I was wondering if anyone else has a family like that. Is that messed up?

  1. I think it's fine.  I'd rather laugh than cry any day of the week.  It's just another coping mechanism.  Better than the folks that drink or get high when the going gets tough.

  2. Your family is not messed up.  Our family does it all the time.  You should see us in the hospital.  I was in there 2 months ago for my back and possible colon tumors.  My hubby had me laughing so hard I was crying.  Then my mother-in-law came in the room and she is crazy.  We laughed so much that day.  That is how we deal with harsh scary moments in our lives is through laughter.  It is the best. don't lose it.

  3. No it's not messed up...family's are different.

  4. No, I don't think it's messed up per se.  Well maybe it is, I don't know.  That's how my family was growing up so I'm on your side :)

  5. That's what I do, don't know about my family, but there probably the same. Its not messed up, its just not wanting to be sad all the time. I guess it kinda lightens the hole situation.
