  1. yea but only on some things though...like not being able to kick a guy while hes on his knees..wtf?? if the guy gets hit while hes on his knees tough luck..dont get in that position..you should also be able to kick a guy when hes down...like Kicking the head of a grounded opponent, or stomping a grounded opponent. all those things should be legal again...those things were legal in PRIDE.. i think the ufc is great but with those rules it would be even better

  2. Yup.

  3. Yes an No

Yes cause , Sometimes I just like to watch people beat the c**p out of each other !!

An No , cause now it's more a fair fight , then a street fight. Weight Class , Etc.

As long as they fight an I get to see Some Blood .. Keep it goin !!!!!!

  4. Not really. The fights today are more "refined" and "strategic". If I just want to see people brawl I'll watch street fights someplace else.

  5. check out rio heros

its kinda the way no holds combat should be

like in the old days of ufc

but then again it would never sell out areans i think...

  6. People like the watered down version of fighting better

  7. all the time

  8. No hold barred fighting is brawling and that doesn't encourage fighters to work on technique. I enjoy a technical fight better than a brutal, brawling fight.

Why would anyone go to see and pay hard earned money for a brawlers fight when they could see it in the street or at their local bar for free.

  9. Brock Lesnar vs. Black Lesnar (Bobby Lashley) for the win.

  10. I remember the Shamrock/Gracie fight that went 30 mins in a hold position... boring.

  11. I love the old stuff but I don't think it would sell, and it may not be as interesting to watch

Even though the senate thinks it's too raw to make it on TV it wasn't much worse than what we see now.  Remember Edwin Dewees gushing blood for 4 minutes?  BJ Penn vs Joe Stevenson?  Blood everywhere.  BJ / Sherk, where BJ licked the blood (nasty).

I don't honestly think I'd like it as much though - fighters definitely would get hurt much worse if headbutts, etc. were allowed.  So you'd see fewer fights.  And moving back to the "no weight class" scenario would eliminate most of the smaller guys, especially now that the talent pool is so much more saavy and technical.

I think UFC is fine as it is.  The old stuff with Tank, Frye, Royce is awesome but I think UFC would do itself a disservice by rolling back the rules.  For those who still want the no-holds stuff Rio Heroes is great!

  12. yes

  13. Yes. Fighters are more skilled now. More knowledgeable in all areas. Fights would probably be more technical everyone would be better trained. There wouldn't be as many mindless brawlers coming into the cage. Doing a one night old school UFC tournament would be a novel idea. It would bring MMA full circle. But It will never happen. The sport is to mainstream now, and Dana White and Zuffa wouldn't mess with their meal ticket. It's too risky.

  14. no i like it better now

  15. I absolutely do, however that is not going to happen if the sport is going to survive.

the ufc, and all MMA league have done alot for martial arts in weeding out crappy notions about what training is, and about poor training methodology.

while a "no holds barred" type of match would be more "realistic" than a league with minimal safety rules, it would also draw so much negative attention from lawmakers that it wouldnt' last very long.  you think the UFC and MMA has acceptance problems now, imagine what morons like o'reilly would say if there were no safety guidelines.

personally I would like to see it move in the direction of implementing rules more similar to Pride, but thats just me.

IMO that would be a big step.

MMA still has not in the eyes of politicians and lawmakers, gained mainstream acceptance and still comes under fire.

we can't even get legalized MMA bouts in certain states INCLUDING new york, while I would prefer "no holds barred" a few minor safety and sportsmanship restrictions are a fair trade off for MMA gaining more widespread acceptance.

EDIT: It seems that the general consensus is that pride should have absorbed the ufc not vice versa.

EDIT 2: i do hope that someday, hopefully within my lifetime, the ufc or some mma league will find a way to incorporate weapons bouts in a similar fasion to a dog brothers type of gathering but more organized as a professional sport.  It would give stick fighters and those training in ancient and obsolete weapons (obviously wood versions would be used) a chance for recognition and add some realistic testing point to keep a part of many martial histories alive.

  16. Nope, you would say no to if you actually watched the orginal UFC. It was slow, boring and very very unskilled.

  17. No. Without the evolution of the sport there would be no evolution of the fighters. We would still have the undisciplined monkeys in a cage rather then the more finely tuned fighting machines we have now.

  18. No. But as Bluto said, I'd like to see some more PRIDE FC ish rules.

The NHB days of UFC has already served its purpose. We saw how styles interacted with each other, and we already learned what we wanted to learn. Pure grappling beats pure striking. Old news.

Modern MMA fighters are SOOOO much more skilled now, and I find that to be way more entertaining than watching the comparitively simplistic fights of the early days. The fighters of today are so much more competent, getting rid of rules would lead to a lot more injuries.

Back then Gerard Gordeau could try and bite Royce, but all it did was p**s him off and Royce would hold the submission a little longer than he should. But nowadays, since everybody could grapple, it'd biting and eye-poking would be so much more effective since fighters are harder to shake. And, again, that would lead to more injured fighters. It's a bad idea.

Long story short, old-school UFC = almost no skill, so people miraculously escaped grevious injury even without rules to protect them.

Modern UFC = very skilled, with fighters who can definitely land dangerous techniques on eachother. It'll get banned fast.

    Watch RIO heroes, man.

  19. Personally I'd say if you wanna see knockdown drag `em out no holds barred brawls my advice to you would be go to a prison exercise yard.

  20. h**l No a knockout by kneeing someone in the groin not entertaining at all.
