Do you exchange US money for Canadian money?

i'm going to canada in a few weeks and I was just wondering if you do. (:

If you arrive in the USA with Canadian money, go to a bank,they will exchange for you.

We have about $12 in Canadian money.  Wells Fargo in Post Falls, ID refused to take it.  We are pretty close to the border so we asked what merchants do when accepting Canadian money and the teller said, "I have no Idea"  Way to go Wells Fargo!

We just got back from Niagara Falls, Canada. There, American money was accepted dollar for dollar, and we always got American change back. The dollar value was close, I think the day I looked it was 97cents to a dollar, so it really didn't matter to us that they were using the same exchange. Some stores even have Canada Prices and US prices. I don't know about other areas of Canada, but at Niagara, we didn't have any problem.

This quite depends where you are going in Canada, overall though you should have no trouble with the acceptance of American, however it can be viewed as rude, ( expecting the acceptance of foreign currency in their own country) however that response is limited. As far as the value, the currency market is fluctuent and as such changes many times a day. However currently it is near par. $1.00 CAD for $1.00 USA only moving slightly $.10 either way.

One word of advice, its often VERY advisable to use a bank for currency exchange. The rates at offices can be poor, and then charge a fee, as well using USD at stores instead of CAD can result in up to a 25% surcharge!

Yes I exchange US to Canadian all the time.  The exchange rate is getting better now, but it was h**l for about 2 years.  I hated it when the Canadian dollar was worth more than the greenback for awhile there.
