  1. so many things depend on fossil fuels. if we do bend towards solar energy among other things, what would we do with all of the objects that run on fossil fuels? no matter how you look at it, it would be a wastful society afterwards.

  2. Yes and in a relativelly short future. Check out these site: http://www.nanosolar.com, http://blog.nanosolar.com/, http://www.envisionsolar.com/

  3. one would hope so

but it may be better for us all if Allah ended it all for us

  4. No.

Reason being that solar energy is only part of our furture energy puzzle along with other renewables like wind/wave/tide/geothermal/hydro, along with a huge reduction of energy needs through efficiencies (which in effect contributes to our energy on a 'penny saved penny earned' theme), and then perhaps even married with next generation nuclear like fusion and/or using Thorium as a fuel source.

Solar is extremely important and might eventually dominate our energy production, but won't and doesn't need to be everything.

  5. no too much of a hassle

  6. it would have to. there's only 50 years left of oil on the planet, and once that's gone buisnesses will be in trouble. instead of fighting over fossil fuels, i think we should study solar power more. but that's neither here nor there. when you say "near future," if you mean in the next ten or 20 years, i don't think so. but once our fossile fuels run out, we'll have no choice. so if your idea of a near future is in the next 50 years or so, i'd say yes. either way, it's coming closer every day!

  7. As the worlds leading energy source? Possibly. But it depends on what you mean by the near future. Solar cells are still relatively inefficient and expensive to install so fossil fuels are the most economical choice right now. Until prices of alternative forms of energy like solar fall bellow those of coal, oil, natural gas, etc, chances are good that fossil fuels will remain the most widely used form of energy.

For this to change, businesses and governments around the world will need start investing a lot more in technology that can produce improved/cheaper forms of alternative energy. Governments can also provide economic incentives/disincentives that encourage private investment in alternative energy and reduce our consumption of fossil fuels. Things like subsidies for clean energy companies, taxes on CO2 emissions, and/or caps on CO2 emissions. Those will help too.

To answer your question more directly though, I think that someday we will replace fossil fuels (if not we could be in a lot of trouble), and as far as alternatives go... solar energy seems pretty promising (considering how much of it we have.) So yeah, I think it's a definite possibility.

  8. I, personally think it is a certainty we will be utilising more solar energy, along with other types of green energy as well, ie: wind generators, photo voltaic cells to replace fossil fuelled energy to create electricity, wave turbines, etc.

It will be the one of the only ways we can save our vulnerable planet from dieing, but we still have a lot of work to do, especially changing our ways of thinking......

  9. Replace? Who knows. Become a more prominent source of energy across the world? Absolutely. The potential is virtually limitless.  When solar wins over the average consumer, that's when it'll really come into its own.  It's only a matter of time until the price of solar is less than the price of fossil fuels (solar will continue to decrease in price as technologies get better and it gains popularity - fossil fuels can only ultimately go up in price as there are limited amounts).

But who knows what other renewable energies will be presented in the future? To say solar is IT and stop at that is a little naive, but I definitely think it has great potential.
