  1. NO,

    im with desert camel.

i dont give a toss as long as you can read it.

  2. Education and intelligence are not necessarily the same thing. But intelligence may make one aware that there is a spell checker.

  3. yes and no---I can spell pretty well--won a few spelling bees when I was a kid however when I get excited or emotional sometimes my mind goes blank and I mess up or hit a key twice and then when spell check catches I might hit change even though it isn't the correct word---it probably is laziness on my part because I do know how to spell the words and most of the time it comes naturally to me-rarely do I have misspelled words when I hit the spell check button.

I have known a lot of intelligent people who cannot spell--once I had a psych teacher who couldn't spell at all but he had a degree, his own practice, and did a lot of research, and had published works about his field.

  4. on ,sorry  i meant no lol

  5. Yes. I think it is laziness to not even use the spell checker

  6. Intelligence and the ability to spell are not necessarily mutually compatible. Many famous people such as Churchill had problems with spelling.

  7. Intelligence doesn't guarantee an ability to spell or any commonsense.

I would think that there are far worse things in the world.

  8. Yes or you look a bit dumb.

  9. Yes - absolutely.  If I read something badly written, it does affect my opinion of the author.

  10. I would expect somebody who is intelligent to at least trya nd spell properly and to care somewhat about their grammar. However just because somebody is intelligent does not meen they have had a traditional education (so may not have been tought how to spell) and does not meen that they have a natural instinct for grammar and spelling.

Often you can see two posts on a website like this and whilst they both may have gramatical errors one will stilll come across as more intelligent than the other, simply due to the vocabularly use, the type of mistakes made and the general tone of the writing.

  11. Yes,unless they're dyslexic,or have some other related problem, which makes it impossible,or at least extremely difficult.

Spell check is so easy now,but before that came along, teachers and dictionaries were pretty important.

If someone is intelligent, and has none of the above problems, surely they are capable of learning the basic structure, grammar, and spelling of their own, rich language?

This isn't to put anyone down,or belittle them,it just seems sense. After all, the main stay of our world today is communication,so it's as well to have the best tools for the job,to have a chance of the best results. How can anyone expect to fully express themselves, and be understood without these skills; and in reverse, understand what's spoken or written,if it's not presented in the same way?

Some of the worst culprits are authors, writers, and journalists, who should know better,(or at least have a proof-reader),their obvious gaffes really make me cringe sometimes, and i must admit,my respect for them drops a peg or two.

Sorry for my ramblings, but you caught a touchy spot there! I could go on all day,and risk massive switch-offs on Y!Answers.

If anyone wants a few examples, only too willing to oblige!

  12. Shady'' can you take a motor cycle ...strip it...then build it back together?   well the simpleton a labourer' at our engineering  factory, does that with ease......point is'

we all have talents in different ways....don't get confused because you are familiar with PC and spelling....that you are intelligent.....and  look down on other peoples inaccuracy's

you my dear...must be a young women....you have a lot to learn.. xx

  13. On here I'd expect them to realise that there's a spell check facility. If they can't suss that out I'd doubt they were intelligent.

Some people just hit the wrong keys occasionally but others who must remain nameless can't spell to save themselves.(runs it through spell check JIC)

In general though I've known very bright people who can't spell well.Maybe they're dyslexic.People with dyslexia tend to be clever.

  14. NOPE ... I ONLY POINT IT OUT WHEN SOMEONE IS TRYING TO BE A SMART AR*SE

  15. I don't expect them to have flawless spelling, but I also don't expect them to be illiterate. I also expect them to know how to use the "spell check."

  16. Not always. You can be very intelligent but a c**p speller. Also many very gifted and intelligent people are unable to express it on paper.

  17. Yes, most definitely.

  18. not nessaseraly....

they might have dislexia of chubby fingers.....as you see im quite a bad speller,i dont class my self as brainy but it doesnt make me dumb either

    EDIT...

    some good answers here.

i carnt see the point of the spell checker, its not as if were writing to the queen or doing a solisitors letter or a job cv..

i just want to get writen down asap to show my answers..its just the way i am.

    EDIT

LMS,..youve just totally contradicted yourself there....

  19. Sum times.

  20. An occasional typo doesn't bother me - I often suffer from fat-finger syndrome myself. I do expect someone of supposed intelligence to put together a reasonably-legible sentence however.

As fore spell Czech, eye think it isn't thee solution fore everything. Awl yore words can bee spelled write and still bee wrong.

  21. some of the smartest people in the world such as einstien and others are dyslexic and cant spell so no i dont expect that

  22. Every time - especially when there's a free spell checker!

  23. Yes. If someone used poor grammar or poor spelling, I would make an assumption on their intelligence

However, I know a lot of people who intelligent (academic or otherwise), but have poor spelling.

  24. Should that be properly proper or correctly ?

There is a difference between intelligence and education .....

As the beast of Bolsover (Dennis skinner )once told a member of the Conservative party ,"it seems you have been educated past your intellect "

  25. probably, but there are different levels of intelligence. i know a lecturer in mathematics aged 55 who decided to walk home through tottenham at 11.30pm carrying his laptop and was amazed when some youths decided to relieve him of said item, so how intelligent is he.

  26. I do, provided there is no medical condition that affects the part of the brain that processes these motor skills, as is such with dyslexia, amongst others.  And in this day and age, spell check is not rocket science...

  27. I am intelligent, but dyslectic.

  28. Spelling correctly isn't a good indicator of intelligence.

  29. Yes, unless they're dyslexic or something.
