Do you expect that the stars in the dwarf galaxies fall into the standard picture of Pop I and II stars?

Why or why not? What type of stars do you think the stars in the dwarf galaxies most resemble? If these stars get well mixed into the Galactic halo, can we use studies of the Galactic halo to tell us about the origin of the Milky Way Galaxy? Why or why not?

  1. It depends on what you classify as a dwarf, as some astronomers argue that the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are dwarfs (they have regions of active star formation or dust, suggestive of population I).

Then there is the argument about whether globular clusters, which are typically population II, are captured dwarfs or formed along with the parent galaxy.

My guess is that population II is the trend with small dwarf ellipticals, as it is with globular clusters. With the irregulars you might get some dust and gas, hence more population I.
