  1. i my is just 5 months and he is eating solids, i give him some jar food about an hour before his next bottle is due. seems to be going fine so far :)

    hope that helps

  2. Most people wait until 6 months, so the first few months of this is truly just 'practicing'.  When I first started with my son, I only offered him baby food in the morning, when he was more receptive to it, and I'd do it before nursing.  Even about 15 minutes prior to his normal nursing time as I didn't want him to be feeling particularly hungry and to get cranky and anxious.  I didn't make this up or anything, I'm not that genius, I read it in a parenting book or magazine that this was a successful suggestion.  Good luck, and don't get frustrated.  Babies should get the bulk of their nutrients from breast milk or formula until 12 months.  So, whenever it starts working for them, is just fine.  No need to push or rush.  Just practice and go with the flow.  You may have to offer him/her a new food many times before they're 'into it'.  This shouldn't be too much of an issue as you shouldn't introduce more than one food at a time - add a new one every week or two.  THat way if there is a weird food allergy reaction, you'll know which new food is the culprit.

  3. You want to introduce solid foods when the baby is not very hungry, that way they can get used to this new spoon and food thing!  That means if your baby usually eats 4 ounces at a time, let him/her eat about 2, stop the bottle, give them a little food and then let them finish the bottle.

A really good book on this is called "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron.  This book goes through everything you ever need to know and I love it!!  Get it from the library if you aren't really a book person.  Its totally worth it!!!

  4. Solids start at 6 months in my house...

  5. i use to give my 9 month yr old, and still do the jar food first. then later when you can tell she is getting hungry again, the bottle.
