Do you feel awkward messaging a high school acquaintance on Facebook after a long period of silence?

Ever since moving 3 years ago (I'm now a senior in college now) I've pretty much lost all contact with my old high school friends...the thing is I don't know if the silence is because I never attributed any meaning or importance to knowing them. Anyone else feel this way about friends they haven't spoken too in a long while? I know that high school friends are often lost in the mix inevitably, but I get brief moments of nostalgia every now and again.

  1. I'm in the exact situation. I'm starting my senior year of college and I've realized that I don't even talk to any of my high school friends on facebook. I guess because I was somewhat of an outcast in high school that it didn't matter if I didn't talk to them again. But recently one of the few friends that I had in high school just emailed me and asked if I could come to her party, since she hasn't seen me since graduation. Now I'm sitting here wondering how awkward it's going to be since I know that a lot of people from high school will be there.

  2. I understand this completely. I'm not sure it's that you didn't attribute any meaning to knowing them, its probably that you didn't form a strong bond with them and since the one thing you had in common (ie, school) is over, there really isn't a reason to stay in touch. Some people are really good to being 'friends' with everyone and it's really mostly surface, and some tend to move on past high school except for the brief periods of nostalgia. I don't think it's weird to message on Facebook to these people...Facebook in itself is sort of random and removed so it's probably the perfect vehicle.
