this is so vague...what i mean is are you ever uncomfortable in areas where the predominant race is something other than your own?

im really looking for my fellow black people to answer but somehow i doubt they will be the ones answering this question...

personally i grew up around different races so im not uncomfortable necessarily but im more conscious of racist attitudes among predominantly white crowds as i get older. i have some friends who are uncomfortable with predominantly white crowds and literally arent as out going around them unless another black or hispanic person is there. i know some of my white friends feel the same even though some of them wont admit it. one of my really good friends (well on/off bf sort of) and i always joke about race and how im like the only real black friend he has. its cool because were really close but its just awkward at times. every now and then my reaction is "yeah thats kind of sad"

  1. well to be honest, i live in hampshire so i have never really spoken to a black person let alone be in a crowd of them! but no i wouldnt feel uncomfortable!

  2. i feel very comfortable with any people i was once in a situation where my face was the only western one among 10,000 Asian ones and I've never felt so comfortable and safe in my entire life.

  3. When I went away to college it was difficult at first, but it was not that bad.  I met some nice people.

Geez, alot of Black folks go through this, so don't dump on her.

  4. why wouldn't I?

  5. How odd that you are so conscience of race.  I'm a white male, living in a predominantly black neighborhood.  It never occured to me NOT to move here on the basis of race, nor do I treat my neighbors any differently than I would treat Asians, Hispanics or other whites.  It simply never occured to me that I SHOULD be self-conscience.

  6. I am a white female and yes sometimes I am uncomfortable around other races because where I grew up there was almost all white at my school and I was never around any other races. When I got my first job I worked with several black people and I got to be good friends with them at the time and felt fine around them but we never hung out much ouside of work. My and another white girl and a black girl took a vacaton together and it was crazy we got a hotel room with two bed and she said she wasn't sharing a bed with no white girl so she had a bed all to herself. She joined the navy and I never see her anymore. But anyway yes sometimes I do feel weird because I'm always afraid i'll say something wrong & make them mad but it has never happened so I guess I'm just being stupid. But I love everybody no matter what color they are personality is what counts!

  7. Where I live... it does not happen all that often..... but for the most part....

    Yes.... I'm very comfortable.
