I looked over my shoulder only to discover a cockroach. I did what my insticts told me too and I raided him. He flipped over on his back and kind of shrivled up. His little legs were expanding, and I could almost hear him say "help me!" I feel so bad now because hes still alive, and I'm to scared to squish him.

Poor thing.

He's still trying to get up.

  1. no i felt great, cuz i made my house a lil cleaner.

  2. I first came across the "life is a life" concept when I was in the 6th or 7th grade.  I remember vividly killing a beetle, and then thinking "oh, my!  What if that was a soul?"

Over the years, I became more agnostic on the concept of a soul, and in fact am very nearly atheist on the subject of souls.

In any case, if I can, I'll collect a beetle and throw it outside.  My bargain with them is "stay OUT of the house, and I will not squish you.  Stay IN the yard, and I will not poison you."

The exceptions are flies, some spiders and cockroaches and fire ants.  I rarely relocate spiders that I know to be aggressive, and I never relocate roaches.  If a fly will leave the house the same way he came in, I'll let him go, but I own three fly swatters and I use them on any that seem confused about where the exits are.  Fire ants are so relentless and so aggressive toward any human standing near their nest that I will take whatever actions I must to dissuade them from living in my yard. I'm just going to  have to deal with the aftermath if I'm wrong about that...

There may be other poisonous or injurious to humans...termites, for example.  I wouldn't "relocate" them, but would say, "Well, you made your choice when you moved in."

  3. Put him out of his misery! Poor thing :(

Yes I do feel bad after killing bugs... I don't even let bugs go down the drain when I'm taking a shower, I do everything in my power to save them...

I don't think it has anything to do with my religion, it's just that it is a living creature and has a short enough life span as it is without humans always trying to kill them.

  4. I usually shoo them out the door. But I do kill ants and some spiders.

I would help the little guy out. Either kill him, or put him outside far from your house.

  5. i feel bad when i kill caterpillars, or butterflies cause they're pretty and help flowers && stuff.

but i dont care if i kill moths, flies, beetles, bees, wasps, etc.

and i'm totally terrified of spiders..so i dont even try to kill those =/

  6. It should be like that! We should have to understand other living things too! If bugs were able to speak, maybe they ask already "Did we have our place on earth?" That people often kill the bugs and insects by any means (cockroaches and mosquitoes for example) without hesitation and not even thinking about the life of the bug that they take! We should have to respect every living thing.

  7. I remember going out on the drink one night..and I saw a snail and laid down next to it because I found it rather fascinating. One of my so called "mates" ran up and kicked it.  I was so crushed...

  8. yes, i do.

  9. no i dont feel guilty...

  10. i'm not enough of a buddhist to feel bad about killing bugs.  i mostly just kill spiders.

i have arachnophobia, and i can't sleep if i know there is a spider somewhere in the room.

i don't go out of my way to kill other bugs though.  i will usually try to get them back outside rather than killing them.

  11. If the bug is really annoying me then I don't feel guilty for killing it,but if it's just there and minding it's own business and not bothering me,then I would feel guilty. I hate killing bugs that are beneficial to the earth in some way,but sometimes they freak me out. Roach's are not beneficial in any way as far as I know. I would never feel guilty killing one of them.

  12. Yeah, I do.

I just shoo the bugs outside my house or whatever.

  13. Like you i too feel guilty. But if i  had not killed the insect or bug, it may harm anyone. so to save that someone i wud kill it forgettng the guilt feeling..

  14. Poor thing! Yes, I would feel bad if I killed a bug. To me, a life is a life.
