  1. Yes. Companies are looking for people that can represent them, are healthy and if they are paying your medical insurance, people that are low risk.  Obese people and smokers are less likely to get employed unless they have stellar abilities, great personalities, or are in a non customer facing job.

  2. It depends on what the job entails...if your weight may interfere with the ability to do your job  safely it is possible. Like if you weigh 400 pounds and need to climb ladders or if you need to stand on your feet for the whole 8 hours and you can't do it because of circulation problems. or if you have heart problems or breathing problems related to your weight. You could be a liability for that company.

  3. depends what kind of job

  4. yeah, there's fat discrimination even if its illegal

  5. Honestly, yes, they certainly do. Have you ever seen that reality show where they do behind-the-scenes about the employment process? Better looking, classy, sophsticated people have a better chance than say an obese person. Even if it's "illegal" to hire based on appearance, how can you prove it? It's how the game works. Your appearance is the way you're going to present yourself. So, when you go for a job interview, make sure to dress and speak well!

  6. I honestly think so. But I don't think it's fair.

  7. Yes. I think they have done studies on it actually. I don't have time to look it up now, but try googling it and I'm sure you will find some. There is a strong prejudice against obese people, and they do have a harder time when applying for jobs.

  8. Absolutely - and many studies have shown this phenomenon over and over.

Granted, it is illegal in many countries to deny someone employment because of something like obesity, race or religion and I'd argue that most employers don't do it out of spite or maliciousness, but overweight/obese individuals certainly have a higher level of stereotyped discrimination than thin individuals.

  9. i think so, but i also think it depends

on whether the employer is thin or obese.

  10. Here's a news flash:

IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST FAT PEOPLE.

It is illegal to discriminate against someone based on their gender, race, religion, creed, sexual orientation.  There are no laws naming obesity in this group of characteristics.  Similarly, there are no laws that make it illegal to discriminate against unattractive people, either.

And yes, it happens every day.  Companies don't have to explain to candidates why they weren't offered a position so there aren't any official records or definitive statistics.  But when an employer is making that last decision between 2 or 3 equally qualified candidates, one candidate's perceived attractiveness and/or their weight can definitely make a difference.

  11. They're not supposed to, but unfortunately there probably are some employers who secretly bias themselves against overweight people.

It all depends on the employer and the employer's morals.

  12. I'm sure they look at it in some perspective answer mine please?

  13. yes because there a potential health hazzard

  14. they are not suppose to but to but i reckon they would ...

    jst my oppinion LOL

  15. Some people may feel obese are lazy and less self-control.

  16. no

    companies should play fair

  17. Yeah.  Obese people face alot of discrimination in the workforce.  In part employers look at their weight as a potential health issue which means more sick days off and higher potential for disability than a person who is not obese.  And part of it is just regular discrimination.

  18. Overweight.. no.. unfortunately obese people do have that proplem.. it's not fair.  but it's true. The prospective employer if someone is overweight.. that is ok.. but if someone is obese they believe that person cannot move fast enough and is more likely to have more sick days and it all depends on the job... if you work as a receptionist.. they won't hire an obese receptionist even if she is intelligent and speaks several languages because she is also the first people the customers see when they come to the office.. and for that reason unfortunately people discriminate in jobs against obese people.. i find it unfair but i know so for a fact that obese people do often get turned down..  that won't apply if you are 20 pounds overweight.. then that is no reason to not give you the job.. x*x but obese means like really heavy.. all depends on what kind of job it is as well.. x*x

  19. I do not think so because most of them look for quality.

  20. No, maybe, i don't think so though it's completley illegeal to hire based on appearance.

  21. Absolutely.  It doesn't mean that an obese person can't possibly find a job, but it is clearly more difficult in most cases.  There are several reasons for it, ranging from subconscious biases to fear of higher healthcare premiums.  Oh, and by the way, unless it is illegal in your municipality, there are no laws against hiring based on appearance, unless that means things specific to protected categories - you can't discriminate because you prefer light skin rather than dark, but you can hire the more attractive person rather than the less attractive one.

  22. its illegal but im sure some places do

  23. one must learn to roll with the punches

    no pun intended
