Do you feel poetry connoisseurs are really reducing in number? Why?

I just published my first anthology recently, the response was good, more than satisfying. But I believe that the number of people who really connect with poetry in the true sense have reduced. The subtlety of the art is somehow suddenly too much for people to stomach. I recently read about a novelist commenting about how penning a book down is 'intensly labourous' as compared to the writing of a poem. Atleast in India, the disdain for poetry seems to be growing. What do you feel?

What's your point of veiw of the scenario in your country? I would really appreciate your veiws.

  1. Poetry goes in cycles. When it is intermixed with great, Ptolemaic works that grabs the publics attention, then poetry begins to ascend once more. Such a thing has just recently slipped from the publics conscientiousness. So, poetry follows like docile dog. Before it again rises we must abide until another great work appears upon the scene.
