Tan Zongliang won a bronze medal at the Olympics and was berated on Chinese television for only coming third. How sad that the Olympics were just TOO important for the Chinese. All athletes have done well and those who have medals have achieved a greatness. How sad that the interviewer had to take away the pleasure of gaining a bronze medal. I wonder if the interviewer could win anything at an Olympics unless there was a discipline for the nastiest person!

  1. I am really ashamed that the UK is only coming 3rd in the tables. We should easily have beaten China and America.  I hang my head in shame for this country..........The shame, The shame.

  2. Yeah i saw that it was horrible.

Eddy the eagle got a hero's welcome for being c**p over here, it just goes to show the size of the cultural divide.

  3. No, I economise on sadness: there is so much more queueing  for needless sobs.  A true sportsman is above the snot*y attitudes of sideliners.

  4. he should be thankful they don't give him a bullet in the neck.

  5. In china it is possible..

  6. This is just one reason why China should never have been awarded the Games.

The leadership of the country don't seem to be able to grasp the principle of the Games which along with the climate and pollution stinks.

  7. I agree with Pencil. Sport is taken far too seriously these days because it has become a corporate entity, about sponsorship and money. It should be about taking part, friendly competition, sportsmanship, all the things we're losing fast.

  8. The interviewer was out of line to such a decorated and accomplished athlete but why do people assume Chinese people look upon it the same way?! They were just as offended if not more then you or me. There were floods of complaints from viewers posted on the TV stations website.

Maybe we should be looking at what we readily eat from are media reports first.

  9. Too much emphasis on winning.  It should be an honor to just be able to compete for the Olympics.

  10. olympics is g*y. -_-

  11. Some of our rowers got similar responses yesterday for coming second; they were expecting to come first.

Does it really matter who comes first, second or third anyway?  People are still starving throughout the world.

  12. So the masque slips, and China shows its real face!

  13. He'll probably be shot in the back of the head, and have his home village burned for his failure.

That's usually how the Chinese authorities deal with their people.

  14. Oh please, as if we dont have our own set of a ... holes in this country. But oh no, its the evil chinese who are to blame.

Our broadcasters rape women (See Mr Leslie) - I suggest we look in our own backyard before berating others.

  15. That's Chinese rule for you

  16. Aww, it saddens me when people do not appreciate the efffort that goes into it all. I very much agree with this question. I hope the interviewer was later reprimanded and apologised.

  17. They should NEVER have been given the Olympics in the first place - 37 Gold Medals? Yes possible I suppose, if your athletes are drugged up to their bollocks!

Oh, and clever bugger Dave S : Get fisted!!

  18. No I don't feel sad for him,I feel sad for the people who even allowed the olympics to take place this year. The whole world is in kaos, and they just wanted to make money.

  19. Absolutely agree with you Stef.  Tan Zongliang should  be very proud at having taken part in the Olympics and having won a bronze for his country - no mean achievement by any standards.

I wanted to boycott the Olympics because of their human rights issues and the terrible cruelty inflicted on animals over there (before anyone takes me to task over my last remark) all countries are cruel to their animals, China makes an art form of it.   However every home I went into had the Olympics on their TV and I felt these athletes have trained for years and it is wrong of my to decry or ignore their achievements.   However I do not think the Olympics should have been given to the Chinese in the first place - under their present regime.  They have shown their true colours and it was a grave mistake.

I do have sympathy  for the ordinary decent Chinese, who have to live under this yoke of repression.

I trust the obnoxious TV interviewer will be summarily sacked - the ghastly little puppet!

  20. I don't, he should be ashamed of himself. What a terrible performance! lol

  21. Totally and anyone else under the Chinese rulership

  22. To be berated by someone who is just works on television and has probably never had a personal achievement as great as the Olympics is horrendous.

However, something that that British rower, (Redman, is it?) said was that the athletes compete to win, not to come second or third.

Did you also see that bronze medalist throw his medal on the floor? Madness.

  23. They all know the price if they fail nothing but number one is good enough for the ruling forces.

  24. The interviewer berated him on television? That is very unprofessional...he should get fired!

  25. The Chinese only see the Olympics as giving kudos to their country-so for them to achieve a bronze is not good enough-very stupid and shallow! Yes I do feel sad for that man!

  26. Honey, China are a**holes. Did you hear about the poor little girl who was swapped because she was "too ugly" to sing on stage?

Find the documentary on HOW they train their gymnasts. It is horrid.

  27. I hadn't heard it, but if true, yes, it's very sad.

( i believe pencil is being sarcastic. lol)
