Do you feel that asking a woman to become vice was very manipulative on McCains part?

Overall I know that a conservative in the white house would do more harm that good for women and that this seems just to be a tactical decision, but I know that there might be a few women who might feel disaffected enough by Obamas choice to not vote or vote for republicans

  1. Hey, she didn't say no....welcome to Washiwood.

  2. You know, she may not be in there to attract women voters.  She may be in there to attract the "bitter" voters who "cling to their guns and religion".  She's a hunter, a member of the NRA, pro-life, and religious.  Don't assume because she's a woman, she's there jus for women voters.  Look at her positions instead.  She's there for the blue-collar voter.

  3. I think it becomes a big distraction in his case.

One should be qualified to be president to run for the office of vise president, but there is debate as to weather she is qualified or not.  John McCain must think she is qualified.  But the questions surrounding weather she is qualified or not form the basis of the distraction, colored with the glorious fact that she is a mom of 5 children, a beauty pagent winner, and she used to play basketball.

She is socially conservative and McCain wants to reassure conservatives of his own conservativism so that is a major reason why he chose her.  Also he may be thinking he can pick up some Clinton voters.  His choice is tactical, but I think he could have done better.  One should pick someone who has foreign policy experience.

Is she really qualified to be president?  This raises another problem, he needs to appear more experienced than Obama to the extent that it would make a difference, but he chooses someone who is obviously less qualified than Obama.  Well I am sure that she is much more qualified than Dan Quail to be president.  But I want a president who is going to work overtime.

I am baffled as to what John McCain thinks, but his running mate may be the only one who has the spirit that he thinks worthy; it suggests to me that he is a bit out of touch.  If he is not out of touch, then this choice was a tactical choice that will most likely backfire.  There is no way a woman so conservative is going to pick up Clinton voters who are the opposite of Bush-McCain.  He needs to bring over the independents who are flocking to Obama.  But independents are more likely to run to Obama seeing that McCain has pulled the rug out from under himself on the issue of qualifications to be president.

On the other hand McCain may be right, that qualifications are ultimately found in character, and he believes that his running mate has such great degree of character (she does have great character), but does Obama not have great character?  I have never known a rhetoritician who did not have great character..

McCain should have picked a rhetoritician who has foreign policy experience and moral views that genuinely match his.  Alack ("unfortunately") he could not find one.

  4. I believe it was an attempt to be manipulative on his part, but it backfired.  He underestimated the fact that most women are smarter than he is.
