Actually it was the City of New Orleans. With a third of the police force absent and looting going on the Mayor in his infinite wisdom decided to forcefully enter homes and disarm citizens or those protecting their businesses.

Yes, if idiots are shooting at rescue personel and vehicles.

Well... thing's this.

The people that got the guns for protection, they probably will give them up.

The people that got the guns for *other* reasons, though, will probably bury them in their backyard when the police come around.

It's a good idea, but it backfires in practice.
