Do you feel that since you've had kids, you're much "older" in a sense?

Like you've aged quicker since being a parent? I just turned 28yrs, have a 1yr and due with twins in Oct. My best friend turned 28yrs 2ms before me and just got engaged. Comparing myself to her...I feel so much...older lol.

Anyone else feel the same, especially if you're young and compared to someone your age who doesn't have kids?

  1. HAHA thats so true..its because all the responsibility and make decision before just you now you have to include your kids..its a big responsibility.. yet its very amazing..to be part of them

  2. No to your question since I don't have kids. I have free time, money, energy and a zest for life that those burdened with sproggen don't have. I laugh at all these people who are killing themselves for the sake of their little crotch trophies.

  3. Not really. I have days where a prior knee injury that occured as a toddler flares up and bothers me(always has a few times a year or so). Other than that I'm in shape, and feel fairly good. Of course pregnant I get sleepy a little more than normal. Sometimes need to take a nap, but that phase is quickly passing. For me, the people my age without kids look/feel older, because they are out partying all hours of the night, not sleeping well, and not eating healthy ect. So physically no I still feel the same as ever.

Mentally, yes I do feel older. I've lived/traveled all over the U.S., bought my house at 19, have purchased 2 lot vehicles, built credit standing, done research on more things than I could even begin to list(mainly finances, realestate, economics). Very up to date with realestate coast to coast.

While most of the people I went to school with are worried about tanning, clubbing, b/f's, just 100% different stuff. So mentally, yeah i feel a lot older then my age group for the most part. I love coming across people my age that I'm able to hold a convo with.....most of the time it just doesn't happen.

  4. I am 26 with a 3yr old girl and a 2yr old boy and my husband and I are 25yrs old and we feel older but I think it is because we are responsible for providing for our children and the things we use to do we choose not to do because we have these precious babies we are responsible for. Don't think of it as getting old but as being mature and responsible.

  5. Yep...Im 23 and feel like a worn out old lady sometimes! I think all the worrying you do about your kids takes years from your life

  6. Oh definatly. I had my twins 7 years ago and now have a four year old and a 5 month old. I'm only 27 and sometimes I feel like I'm 47. I have a friend who is only a couple months older than me but I agree with you, I feel much older than her. Children age you, you have to grow up quickly in order to take care of them!

Good luck with your twins! I know mine were a handful! lol

  7. I'm in my late twenties and every once in a while I'll say to myself, "What are you doing?! You're acting like an old prude!" I always give myself a reality check. I'm NOT old. I just feel it. ha ha.. repeat mantra.

Yes! It ages you. There's no stopping it.

  8. I'm 19 and I have a 2 year old. My sister is 21 but I do feel much older than she is. I think that I feel older because I am more responsible. When you have kids, you have to not only feed yourself, but make sure that they eat too. Plus, you can't just take off to see a movie. It has to be a planned event.

  9. It is not my birthday that makes me feel older it is that of my children.

I'm 31 now but a couple years ago when I was in my twenties I was working with a guy who went out and partied every weekend and was just finishing University.  After a couple weeks we discovered we were both the same age.  I was sure he was a good 5 or more years younger and I'm sure he felt the same about me (I had 2 kids at that time)

  10. Big time. I just turned 21yrs and have a 2.5yr daughter. I have so many responsibilities and feel like I've had them for years even though 3-4yrs ago, I was a senior in high school.

It really hit me recently though. I went to my girlfriend's apartment the other day and she was on the computer watching the music video Leavin' by Jesse McCartney. I said to her, "Is that kid legal yet?". She looked at me, made a face, turned back to the screen and responded with, "He's the same age as us." Here's a 21yr guy who looks like hes 16, 17yrs, has probably next to no responsibilities, fooling around with some random girl in a video etc. Then I said outloud, "He couldn't handle a 2.5yr old."  I feel so much older compared and it's a little scary.

Many people my age are going into their senior year of college, have no worries, party all the time etc. I feel the inner parent/adult that I am comes out when I say to my friends, "Ok, don't drink too much." and "A $30 dollar bill and you're complaining?" I have so many worries and feel like I'm aging rapidly!

I don't regret it though. My daughter is my world.

  11. LOL that's very true and also I see a lot of what my mom was trying to say and do.
