I have a college degree and I can't find a decent teaching job for the life of me.

Do you really enjoy where you work and are you working somewhere that actually uses your degree?

  1. psht yea we were all cheated and are still being cheated   = [

better off being a bum on the street

  2. Who is "society"?  We all are.

    Did you s***w yourself?

  3. I think it is more important to like what you do. Obviously earning a descent living is also important. We cheat ourselves when we spend millions to watch someone throw or kick a ball around, instead of pouring money into shaping a better country.

  4. Actually I know plenty of people who are degreed and have jobs outside of their degree for various reasons. Sometimes it's because professions outside of their degree pay more and yes, others have been unable to find a job related to their degree. It seems like more and more you have to have a least a masters degree in some professions in order to find a good position or a position at all within that field!

I'm curious about your question however. You say you can't find a "decent' teaching job. What does that mean? Not enough pay, not the school or subject you want?  If that is the case, bear in mind you have to start somewhere. My father was an educator and he started his career in an "undesirable" school district in an underfunded school. He made the best of it though and ended up years later in a music educators "hall of fame." I know he went through alot in his career, but being a teacher is what he wanted and he ended up making a huge difference in countless of peoples  lives!  If you want to teach, you will teach.

  5. I dont use either of my college degrees.

I have two.  Business Administration and Law Enforcement.

I work two jobs. 1 fulltime as a 911 dispatcher (no the law enforcement degree i earned after I had the job).  And, part-time doing basic data/entry and office work.

But, with overtime, I have pulled in 60,000 so far in 2008 btwn both jobs.

I wouldn't say I enjoy the 911 job. But, after 6 years I make over 25 dollars an hour with good benefits and basically ALL THE OVERTIME I WANT.

So, enjoy making a decent living, but not my job. And, again, I have two degrees and use neither.

You have to be flexible and careful in the economy today.
