  1. Environmentalists are among the harshest and most unthinking individuals on the face of the earth.  When I was in college, I can remember watching this female environmentalist/protestor driving up to a protest ralley in her un-tuned, smoke-spewing diesel Peugeout, get out dressed in her totally synthetif fabric costume, and put on a drilling derrick to top her protest costume off, made from plastics (oh yeah, before she put it on, she brushed her hair with a plastic hair brush).  She did this all to protest the drilling for oil!

So yeah, by and large, environmentalists are unthinking idiots.

  2. I don't know what environmentalists you are running into, but neither myself nor any of my friends are like that.

Clothes made out of Hemp and other eco-friendly fabrics are changing to look and feel alot better.  I have my own garden that I farm, so I try not to go to large grocery stores for most things.  I do alot of other things that help the environment as well; however, I need to get back to work and can not continue writing.

  3. I assume you're talking about American environmentalists and American farmers - but you're generalizing about both groups. American agricultural land is shrinking, especially the family farm, and the volume of imported food shipments is growing dramatically (this has its own set of problems). Much of the homegrown American food supply comes from huge corporate farms, and they're certainly not the old family farm. To dream of the farmer out in his field raising healthy crops to set, fresh on our tables is a bit naive. Most of those fine folks had to sell the farm long ago.

Of course the real culprit is the American consumer who demands cheap, yet perfect, food - a scenario that involves unnecessarily high fertilizer and pesticide input. If environmentalists want to get harsh with anyone, it should be every consumer who ignores the local farmer's market and goes shopping at the supermarket where most of the fruit and vegetables are imported. The very presence of such quantities of foreign food is witness to hidden costs that are doing none of us any good. As long as Americans remain mindless consumers, they deserve all the harshness they get.
