  1. No, I find it proper.  Quite the contrary to your question, really.  I can't stand when someone refers to a celebrity by their first name, as if they know them.

"Hey, did you see Britney on TV last night?"  Stuff like that drives me crazy.

  2. No, not when I am at work; it is the done thing.

  3. depends where I am

  4. I find it funny!

  5. No I like it.

  6. This only happens to me when my name's called out at the dentist or doctors

  7. Not at all for me!  I guess it would be strange if they called you Nip Nip..

  8. no one calls me by my first and last name because its entirely too long, but people do it to my cousin. We were just talking about it because we find it funny that people do it.

  9. They don't do it to me, but my husband is always called by his first and last name by all his friends, probably because both his forename and surname have only one syllable, so you feel like you've kind of got to say something more after the first name!

He doesn't mind it though, but was very certain about giving our son a first name with more that one syllable so that same thing didn't happen to him!

  10. No. I just know that they are being serious. x

  11. If you are named John and there are six "John"'s in the room it is not at all strange to use both a first and last name.  Otherwise they should only use your first name (friends) or by your last name (business) only.

  12. I do this if you have a catchy name or if I just like the way it rolls off my tongue.  It's almost a compulsion I can NOT help myself.  I would say it was especially true in cases like Brownbug mentioned or if the two names rhyme.  OR if your parents named you something funny like Bunny  when your last name is Rabbit.

  13. Hi, It all depends on how good the person knows you. If one of my friends were to do it i would start laughing but if it is a person you dont know that well or not at all i would consider it proper.

  14. Nopes,as maby there are two or even more people in the room with the same name, and if I am Neelam Sharma and someone is calling Neelam Gupta I or that other girl will get confused if they dont call by sirname...But yes, among friends I am called Nellu so,nick names are much better then calling with sir name,as it gets to formal,so it all depends on the setting I think!!!

  15. Sometimes yes, x

  16. I don't think many people really do this to your face. However, I often hear people and think do it myself use a christian and surname when referring to someone who is not there. It isn't meant to be in anyway nasty but if it is a fairly common name it's to ensure the person knows which Mary or John it is. Also can you imagine in a hospital waiting area if when it was your turn only a christian name was called out? Think it would be strange if someone when speaking direct to you called you - Charlie Smith instead of Charlie all the time but other than that I think there are circumstances when referring to someone by their first and last name is essential.

  17. yes when that happens to me I think they are being condescending. In turn, I will be very abrupt with them. Unless I know them closely.
