  1. It is always you in the end.  You may try to emulate a great writer or poet, but it is still your words.  To really stand out though to me is to infuse an unique style into whatever it is you attempt to do.

  2. You must be describing me.  I began writing poetry when I was in my 50's when an inner dam burst and it all poured forth...but, most of it was rubbish.  I wanted to write well so badly (...strange expression) that I began to read all the poetry I could get my hands on to teach me how...and then, of course, I only became a poor copyist not a creator.

Still haven't found out who I really am yet 14 years on.

I think my genre is to write rather cynical, funny poems since these come so easily....but, I still want to be a serious poet. Maybe one day.

  3. Is this a tricky Q! LOL.

Who was I then, Who am I now?

Worrisome, about who I think I am, No.

I try to take every thing in with an open mind,

Yet I do believe my thoughts are my own,

It is always a feeling of content, when I leave a path

to find some one on that path for affirmation of the path

I've chosen, It took me many years to come to be what I think

now is my own person. I sort out what I agree with and let the

rest go. Yet I know few thoughts are original!

    (beware of Trolls)

  4. I am truly a whole

Formed by bits and pieces of

    others before me

A writers goal is to be loved enough to take a bit

of every reader with them as the book closes.

They want you to love them so much. I wonder what they do with all the bits.

We can go through life giving up a small part at a time, only hoping to receive a comparable part in return.

Thus remaining whole but never  to be purely truly ourselves again.

A lot of people have taken part of me with them, I am not sure if I am vain enough to know if I have taken a piece of genius. I only remember that I loved them.

  5. Why, only last week, I found out that I am actually my next door neighbour. Apparently I haven't been me for 16 years, which is strange, because I only moved house 5 years ago, but am still the same neighbour, even though they have not moved. Anyhoo, must go now, I've just peeked through the curtains, and it looks like I'm coming over to borrow some sugar from myself.

  6. I have read all the answers, and by the way it was a great question! The whole process is a journey, if you will, and time and yourself changes(hopefully for the better) so what you write in the past, and what you write now, can have a change, something you have read by someone else, maybe back in time was a genius, but now you may only see a everyday poet!

Every day is a new beginning developing in to something different,  so you take a little here, and a little there, and you mesh it and then it becomes closer to, who you are.

Another words  ---helping you to become better at explaining but in the end it is you!

neonman said this! I totally agree!

To really stand out though to me is to infuse an unique style into whatever it is you attempt to do.It is always you in the end.

So very graciously said, and well explained!

  7. we are the effect of what we are, some may have a duality in personality behaviors and at times "black-outs".not knowing.but it is inside of ones brain,some-where.

creativity is an evolutionary process governed by thought.those thought to be creative in nature, actually do rely on past influences of some sort, although the ego sees this in a different manner,at time.

when one writes a nice piece of poetry that is original or said to be,it has been influenced by some sort of past experience or influence.

    take care.
