It's cool when they steal other people's ideas, but the minute someone infringes on their trademarks, they launch a lawsuit.

  1. I am living and working in Shanghai, China.  I went to Disney with an idea which they rejected.  Saying Disney is not interested in that market.  Eight months later I was contacted by the person at Disney Shanghai I had met with and she asked me about a letter the Marketing Manager had sent to me in reference to the idea.  I met with her and told her I still have the letter.  Upon asking why, she asked me if I would use that in any negative way.  I told her only if Disney used my idea without me.  I also explained to her not only would I go to court in America but I would ask one question to the chinese press:  "why is Disney so protective of their IP in China?  They steal other people's IP and ideas and profit from them just as the chinese do to Disney."  She then asked me to delete the letter from my e-mail and computer.  I said no and she said this meeting is over and escorted me out of the office.  A few days later I found out that Disney, at the time of my meeting, was two days away from signing a deal multi-million dollar deal using my idea with a chinese company.  As far as I know this deal did not go thru after my meeting with Disney Shanghai but I am still checking every week...

  2. This is actually 'run of the mill' stuff.  Companies tend to be fiercely protective of their names and icons.

I've seen the Wall Street Journal and Mutual of Omaha do the same thing.  And these are just a couple of organizations that I can think of.  I'm sure there are many more cases.

May seem like bullying to you, but they see it differently.  These organizations may spend millions developing and promoting these icons, just to have someone hi-jack their idea.  It tends to upset them.

  3. That;s dumb.  Disney has always been like that.  I remember being in Kindergarten, our school got into trouble because we had Disney posters on the wall and we had to take them all down

  4. Simple answer:

    Yes.

    Others are:

    Exxon Mobile

    Haliburten

    Shell

    Microsoft

    Sony

    Monsanto

Its not what they do, its the scale of the company.  After a company gets so big, the only route to profit is to be an ******.
