Do you find this mildly irritating?

The WINGS won the CUP and really have no reason to do much at all in the offseaon. They have 4 RFAs, only 1 with NHL experience, (FILPPULA) and have said that they will match just about anything he is offered. They lose basically nothing that cant be replaced at all! They have no reason to trade up in the draft, trade in free agency, or do much Free Agent signing at all this Summer as they basically have a full roster or guys ready to take any spots that are left from Stuart leaving or Drake and Hasek retiring. Also they have about 10mil to use in resigning guys with the CAP going up and Hasel retiring! IRRITATING? Knowing that they just won the CUP?

  1. Where did you hear that the Wings will match anything to keep Filppula?! And I think its great. Everybody in the organization is great and does a great deal to keep and build this team. I love this(:

  2. Yea let's ignore the weak western conference assessment. Besides that, good business is good business. What can ya really say? Detroit is the model organization in the NHL. They have been for years. There's a reason they win so many games and it starts with Ken Holland. It could be worse. They could be extremely arrogant and condescending about it. For the most part they show respect to the teams they play and always talk about how talented the competition is. So while it's not irritating, I'm certainly jealous.

  3. You better watch out Mr. Cocky.....Homes is going to Super Jinx your team next year!

  4. ken Holland is awesome i wish he would help out the lions

  5. The wings are annoying period.

  6. I wish my team was in that situation!

  7. They will not match the offer on filp if it is offer like the Oilers did with Vanek, and I for one would love the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick it would likely bring if someone did. While he is a good young player it is not like he is irreplaceable. I think the Wings will move Meech and Ericson up to fill in on D and go out and sign one of the older free agents(Jagr, Sundin, Naslund) to a one year deal. They will not make a Hossa type splash as they have to sign Zetts and Franzen to deals after next season. I wish they would of packaged Filppula with there first round pick and traded for Ryan Miller who is an UFA next summer and Buffalo doesn't want to lose him for nothing(he has already stated he would like to return home and play for the wings)

  8. Plus a very weak Western Conference

Ducks – NHL made it clear that their physical hockey will not be tolerated

Sharks – Do I need to say anymore? New Coach Same softness

Stars – Not really a power let's not fool are selves, look how the Wings fed them their lunch in the West Finals

Any Northwest team – Too tight of a division come playoff time they are spent, the whole season is a playoff in the Northwest.

The Hawks- Will be better but they are not their yet hopefully they came make the playoffs I think they could be a player in 09-10

And Rest of the Central - Have fun Detroit

Also I saw the 08' playoffs, Enough Said

Since I've been called a hater, I would like to know what I am hating?

Ducks - NHL made a point to say a team isn't going to play tough hockey and win in this league

Sharks - They have this Cup or Bust expectation and they aren't that good to say that, they have a deceint team but they are soft and are feeling the pressure of underacheving for the last few season.

Stars - By all accounts, the NHL gave a helping hand vs the Ducks and Sharks 4 OT games it could have gone either way, also you saw how late in the season when they were on the verge on taking on 1st place, had a 2 goal led vs the Wings blew and spriled down, only to ctach something of lighting in a the bottle on their PP in the playoffs.

Coyotes - I don't follow the Yotes too much but along with the Oilers and Hawks they aren't there yet but close and this season will be a stepping stone to a 09-10 year long run.

Kings - Unless you are a die hard Kings fan you know that this team is in trouble.

Oilers - Not there but close and young and it will be fun in 08-09 to see which team between them and Hawks either makes the playoffs or has a higher seed.

Flames - Kipper had a down year but like most people no one is pulling the plug on this guy yet, Iggy will be Iggy and like the last 3-4 season the Flames will hack, slash and bang their way into a mid range playoff spot.

Canucks - This team is just a mess

Avalanche - Old and Young but middle guys like Smyth and Hannan mailed it in last season after getting the big bucks, plus big question again of who is going to between the pipes.

Wild - Solid team, I can't seem them dropping off the face of the earth.

The Northwest as a whole is just too tight and too competitive for a team to go 82 games and make a deep playoff run without luck, they simply just beat each other up all season long because most games matter and are playoff games.

Blues - Let's be honest this team is still years away from being an impact, an impact in the Central that is.

Hawks - Like the Oilers 08-09 should be a fun season to watch.

Nashville - I see the Owners blowing up this team late/early December if this team is too far out

Blue Jacket - One day Rick Nash will get out of purgatory and play for a contender but until then he makes the Jackets actually watchable.

    Wings - 09 repeat.

I guess I'm still just an NBA fan

  9. no, i'm a wings fan

  10. The rich get richer...and more jewelry too.

The club is run well. The team is the oldest in the league. They play a fluent well timed attack, and everything else.

They are the Gold standard of the league.

Yeah it is mildly irritating...especially when the Wings fans out number the Jacket fans in Columbus sometimes.

  11. Stuart's leaving?

    Did I miss something?

  12. i find backwards leap frog anoying

  13. I find it rather comforting. The entire Wings organization runs calmly, smoothly, and does what needs to be done to win. Adaptability and good decisions. What a team!

  14. i like your new pic nips! excuse the guy cause he's hating. lol he's probably like those basketball fans who think the east (even with the celtics winning) is better than the overall west...when in reality you just ask any player from the eastern conference which teams from what conference are hard to play against and most say the west.

i don't envy your team and their position. i can only hope that my team will someday reach playing the type of hockey the redwings do, and also i don't know about you but i do like a team that isn't at a flatline of success, mediocrity, or loosing so i like the variations. the redwings are my favourite american team, and their fans are lucky. enjoy what they have now cause it doesn't mean it'll always be you know.

aside from that goodluck drafting another great player.

DETROIT'S PICKING!!!!! they picked mccollum from the storm. i hope he doesn't help team usa beat us this year at world juniors with his wicked glove hand. ugh.

hey greene person. i actually don't disagree with you. the leafs are in the east and i don't think we're as weak as it's made up to be it's just that we have some suck teams in our conference, but overall the western conference is stronger than the east and that's fact that comes straight from the mouths of hockey players.

if the west is very weak, or staid, or young etc (thanks for your explanations), then i'm interested in what you think of the eastern conference.

and hey i like the nba but it's the same thing with them even the boston celtics players (best in the league and everything) said that the western conference is better/stronger than the east, and same thing if you asked most teams which team in the nba was most likely to win or was the best this year it was the boston celtics. it was disgusting to hear because they're in my conference, but w/e. i have to live with it. that and cause i had a lot of money on the lakers to win because i thought something magical could happen on the day of to change their d. ugh.

"I think the NHL has a stronger west then the NBA."

as a raptors fan i'll agree with this considering that boston and detroit are here...but i'll also be shaking my head a little. even the players on the pistons, i know, said the west is better. **** they even said that the celtics were better than they were. you don't know how much that hurt me. i had these chest pains watching the players get interviewd. hahaa.

greene guy can you hurry up and answer how the east is stronger/better than the west. or else i'll see this next time. peace.

  15. NIPS, to be totally honest, I find anything irritating that has to do with the Flyers ongoing Stanley Cup drought.

    As far as the Red Wings are concerned, it's like Mel Brooks said in "History Of The World" after he won the human-sized chess match;

"It's good to be the king."

  16. I find it irritating that some one actually thinks the west is the weaker conference! If the west is weak in the NHL, then the east would be weak in the AHL.

And no, i don't find your assesment irritating at all...Unless of course today is opposite day, and irritating means the opposite of irritating, what ever that may be.

  17. Ken Holland is a genius, pure and simple.

  18. They offered Stuart, Lilja and Drake contracts... I read an article about that in the free press i believe... I'd be shocked if Stuart doesn't accept, he performs really well here with Kronwall...

yea its kinda frustrating, but I'd rather have the cup and be frustrated than not have the cup and have the Wings make sooo many changes when they already have a winning team...

i read that about filppula too... remember his first point?  an assist vs florida from center lol... man he grew up so fast.
