Do you float to top of water automaticaly?

Question

hey do you float to the top of the water automaticaly? is so how come when i was drowning i just keep going up and down also how long will it take me to tread water??

You do not float on top of water automatically (unless you are in the Great Salt Lake or the Dead Sea). With your lungs full only about 1/3 of the head will be above the water; when you breathe out, you will sink. By treading water correctly, you can keep the entire head (and possibly a little more) out of the water but you will eventually tire and start to sink. Learn to keep only your face above water and you can float indefinitely.
