Question:

Do you flush your toilet with drinking water?

I'm just wondering how many environmentally conscious people have even considered this. My family started capturing our bath and laundry water in plastic garbage cans and other containers and flush the toilets with that undrinkable water. Our water consumption is way, way down since we started doing this. So is the bill! We just bail water from the containers straight into the toilet bowl with a gallon pitcher and it flushes.

  1. i don't think it's good to do that. sorry. so yeah

  2. Yes ,but only because our toilet has a small handbasin above the cistern which drains into the cistern and is used for the next flush ,saves money, water and room in a small toilet area.

I should also mention where I live in Australia ,we have a recycled water system that takes all the grey water to a local processing facility and then sends it back for watering gardens ,washing cars ,flushing toilet etc we have 3 toilets 2 use the recycled water and the one downstairs has the handbasin ,the reclycled water has a warning not to use for drinking or washing. This recylce program has helped keep my gardens alive while we experienced one of our worst droughts in history in Sydney in the last 10 years , we are currently still on water restrictions as we speak ,we also use low flow showers which have saved us a huge amount of water per day since installation.

More info ,Glad to hear that some of you have an unlimited supply of drinking water just remember that not all of us have tha privilege ,when I was a child we didn't conserve water and in summer to cool off a running hose was used sometimes all day ,now even with our attempts to save water it costs me $200 AUSD per quarter,so think about the future when using drinking water for non essential uses.

Great question thanks for asking it.

  3. I wouldn't drink the stuff that comes out of my tap, so no, I don't. I have a reverse-osmosis system to make my tap water drinkable.

  4. ALL WATER ONE GETS IS FRESH DRINKING WATER, USED FOR TOILETS= IF USED SOMETHING ELSE, IT MIGHT LEAVE YOUR AREA SMELLY, ALSO FOR SHOWERS. I PAY $56 FOR 2 MONTHS FOR FRESH WATER FOR EVERYTHING AND THE NORTHWEST HAS THE BEST FRESH WATER IN THE U.S.A. I LIVED IN THE SOUTHEAST, SOUTH, NORTHEAST, NORTH AND NOW NORTHWEST

  5. I don't think that it is necessary to put drinking water in the toilet. In steed use water that you don't really use like hose water or something

  6. it's actually a really good idea, as it saves the water from flushing the toilet, which usually uses 1.5 gallons each time. A lot of other countries are doing this too, it saves money, and the environment. A lot of other people should do this, it would help a lot.
