Yes, you can get HD quality through DVI.  DVI is a 24-bit digital RGB interface that can support computer resolutions as high as 1600 x 1200 (UXGA), and the cinematic-apex, 1080 1080 progressive high definition format. In fact, it is capable of supporting even higher bandwidth using a Dual Link. Dual link DVI connections can produce double UXGA bandwidth, but almost no one is using dual link today.

    Unlike HDMI though, it will only pass through a video signal, whereas HDMI passes both audio and video.

  3. i worked this summer as a computer tech for a school district.  No, you don't get HD quality, but you do get a step up from VGA, it tends to be more clearer.  

    Word of warning: our school has some Acer monitors that once the power has gone out (whether on surge protector or not) they wont accept DVI input, but will run on VGA still
