  1. The common cold is due to a variety of viruses; about 200 kinds; most commonly due to Rhinoviruses.

The possibility of 'catching' a cold increases during the cold season and after a cold bath.

Viruses that are floating in the air can enter through the mouth or nose.

Even viruses in the fingers can contaminate books ,utensils, handkerchiefs etc. and cause an infection,

when they enter through the air passages.

    I am a medical doctor.

With the droplets produced by coughing or sneezing the virus can enter through the nose.

The 'cold' viruses are highly contagious specially for children.
