For instance black tea they say steeping time vary from around 2-5 Minutes. If I steep it for the full 5 minutes does it release more of the health benefits within the tea?

  1. I think so.

  2. With black tea, most of the time they can become bitter. What causes this? Believe it or not, the boiling water cooks the tea leaves, and all of the good benefits are released. If they overcook, more than 4 minutes, all the good stuff has been released. There are no 'extras' left in the leaves and sometimes, roots, berries, etc.,

If you ever try green tea somewhere down the road, very important to follow instructions for steeping. This is a tea that could actually cause a little harm than good if steeped too long.

  3. i wouldn't say so because some green teas only steep for 2 minutes and you definitely get more health benefits from green tea.  Some green teas only steep for 30 seconds.

I recommend whatever suits your taste 2 minutes or 5 minutes, and the health benefits will take care of themselves.  Enjoy!
