i.e- if someone is becoming verbally aggressive and trying to get you to fight.

I get it and I don't like it, it's very uncomfortable and it "decenters" me.

  1. This usually only happens to untrained or novice fighters. Trained fighters are used to fighting and usually don't experience this. They can stay pretty calm (I actually get calmer than normal) so their thought isn't clouded by anger and the intent to hurt someone.

  2. yes, its a natural human reaction, when fighting, always be afraid and catious of people who show no emotion at all...these are typically trained fighters

  3. I know my heart starts to beat very rapidly and I actually tear up even if I'm not really upset. Then I get all sorts of uncontrollable shakes. It's a reaction and it's totally normal for that to happen. Some people can control it though or have different reactions, but you shouldn't let it get to you. In the end, if the conflict is worked out, it's all good.

  4. Not enough teeth.

  5. It's your defense system. Your brain is preparing your body for a fight.

  6. It's your bodies natural reaction

  7. Everyone gets that feeling. Its a normal human response. Google "fight or flight" to find out more. Basically, adrenaline is a hormone that is secreted when you're in trouble. This is what is making you think and breathe faster.

  8. Adrenaline is good for fighting. It keeps you on your toes, it helps block out pain receptors so that you can continue operating without going into shock, it increases the blood flow to your muscles so they operate more efficiently.

Don't mistake adrenaline for fear. Embrace it.

  9. yes, i have a bad temper. just today at olive garden they sat a party of 7 before us, we were there first and had 6 and i thought my chest was going to explode. of course i contained myself but it is not in your control. i have to breathe deep and wait a few seconds before i respond to people, i am still working on this myself. some people can remain really calm when your all pissed off and that makes it worse!

  10. Sounds like you're hyperventilating. Stress does that to people.

    Doesn't happen to me, though.

  11. it's a natural body reactions to danger situation. i bet even your opponent feels that.

  12. This is why we train in martial arts.  The conflict becomes familar, and you don't get the adrenaline rush, because you've been there before, and you've learned that it's not scary.  subjective time quits compressing, and in fact stretches out, as you encounter familiar situations in the rapidly changing dynamic between you and your attacker, and you meet them automatically.

If you don't get at least a little fear and adrenaline when you train, then you aren't training hard enough.

In the verbal abuse that leads up to a fight, you won't get the adrenaline rush if you are a martial artist, because you will have the confidence to know you can take the guy if it gets ugly.  This is why I love Aikido, because when he commits himself to make contact, he's committed, and you're not.  You know what he's doing, because there's only so many ways to attack, but he hasn't got a clue what you've lined up for him when that first contact happens.
