Question:

Do you get freaked out when waiting for trains?

When I'm waiting in the tunnel for a train, I always get freaked out that someone is behind me waiting to push me in front of the train. I always tend to lean back a bit just in case! I could stand in the back so its safe, but in rush hour if you're not in the front, then you'll never get on. Does anyone else get freaked out like that?

  1. Not at all... then again I used to work on the flight deck of US Aircraft-carriers and jump from helicopters into the sea.

  2. I keep wondering whether the train is going to be on time or whether it is going to be late (again).

When a fast train is passing through I always stand well back from the platform edge, because the air turbulence of a train passing at speed can suck you into its path if you stand too near. At any rate, that's what the warning notices on the platform say.

I always worry that I won't get out of the way in time and come to a sad and untimely end.

    Still, it hasn't happened yet...

  3. You're freaked out for a reason.  You're too close!

I hear what you're saying about people standing closer and closer to compete to be first on... but that just rewards whoever is willing to act most dangerously.  If they all jumped off a cliff, would you?

    So change tactics.   For instance

    - go to the "first" boarding spot in the station, i.e. at the front of the train.  That way the train is crawling to a stop by the time it gets to you.   That doesn't work if expresses run through your station.

    - Board the train in the opposite direction, ride a few stops, then cross over and get on the direction you want.  That way you get on long before everyone else at your station.  Don't laugh, thousands of commuters do this in San Francisco, the "Powell street shuffle" it's called.

  4. Not at all. I am sorry for you!

  5. never........... ex commuter into Hoboken, NJ

    nice experience

  6. This is only my opinion, but I think you need to talk to a mental health professional about your problem. I hope my answer helps you. But as for me, I like trains. Miniature trains are a delightful hobby, model railroading is fun.

  7. I get freaked out when I am waiting for the train to pass and be able to cross the railroad

O_O I keep thinking that if I get too close the train can suddenly derail and fall over me and my car
