My hubby is in the military, and we recently moved to Fort Riley where they have a college I can attend for free. I applied for my FAFSA and was awarded some money (I still get it even though classes are free...how great is that). It's a month later and I found a school not on base that provides a degree in Dental Hygiene, which is what I wanted to go to school for before we moved. Do I have to re-file my FAFSA with that school's code, or is the amount I was awarded a flat rate kind of thing? Or do I just notify them somehow that I need the funds to go to a different school? THANKS SO MUCH in advance for any help!!

  1. if you already filled fafsa for the year, then i think you can simply log in and change the school code..

  2. You can get less money for a school depending on the school's funding. I graduated from Northern Virginia Community College, where I got an FSEOG for 4000 dollars/year. Then I transferred to George Washington University and only got 2000. When I asked they said that was what their funding provided for. I think it's a load of bull, because they're the most expensive college in the country with a huge endowment, but I digress. Depending on how your school allocates its funds it might be more or less. As for re-filing your FASFA, you just need to log in and select 'make corrections to a processed fafsa' go to the school information area, and enter the new school's code. Good Luck

  3. yes, out of state students pays more tuition than in state students
