If you're just working in a shop, would you get paid more than if you worked outside of London? I know it applies to teachers, police force etc, but just wondered if it applied to jobs like shop work?

Thanks!

  1. normally yes - they know it costs more to live there and therefore they pay a little bit more.

  2. There is a lot of poorly paid, even minimum wage work in London.

Just do a jobcentre online search and put in a London postcode.

  3. Yes, because the cost of everything is horrendous.

  4. Some jobs have a London weighting , however a lot of jobs just pay normal wages

You're better getting out of London having a decent life,  and visiting as a tourist

  5. A lot of jobs pay an additional 'London weighting' but to be honest it's not worth much nowadays.  When I started my first jobs in London, my basic salary was £5500 but I had an additional £3000 London Weighting.  That was 20 years ago.  The London Weighting now is only around £5000 for the same company, and you have to be working slap-bang in the centre for that.  The salary for the same job is now around £11 - £12K.
