Do you get paid while in college in the Air Force?

Question

I've heard you don't get paid for the first 15 months or so while in college in the Air Force. Just wondering if its true, or what the spill is on that.

I've never heard that one...Once you join any branch you get paid as soon as you start boot camp. (You don't get paid in DEP)

I don't know how the ROTC works..but that is a little different.

If you enlist and sign up for GI Bill, they do deduct $100 per month from your pay for a year...but you get over $1000 per month back when you go to school full time (I used it to pay for my school...not a bad investment, but I was out when I used it.)

They wont hold your pay back for over a year...who told you that?

If you are joining as enlisted, I don't know if you will have enough time to obtain a degree. The military and college are two different things. Should you get a change of base, you have no choice but to move. This could seriously damage your schooling. If you are going in as an officer candidate, you would get the education and "then" serve your military obligation. You get paid from the day you start boot camp.

You get paid starting from day 1 when you leave MEPS for Basic Training.  After Basic Tng and Technical School, what you do on your time is up to you.  If you want to spend it wisely, then take as many college credits that you can handle.

The Community College of the Air Force is not a typical college as your local 2 year institution as there is no actual physical school.

When you enter Basic Training, you are actually earning College Credit through the Community College of the Air Force.  Likewise, when you go through your technical training school, that will also give you credit.  Other Military schooling such as NCO Leadership & Academies will give you additional credit.

In order to receive a degree through the CCAF, you would need to earn additional credits in math and humanities.  You would receive those credits by attenting (on/off campus) classes at local universities utilizing the Active Duty Educational Benefits provided by the Air Force.

The Air Force is the only branch of the military services that has their own College in which all your training is automatically credited.  You can look up the Community College of the Air Force in the National Credited 2 year College directory.

By being Nationally Credited, your credits will generally all transfer to all other Nationally Credited Universities.

Although most members of the Air Force with Degrees will have a CCAF degree, they will also hold AA, AS, BA, BS, Master or higher degrees from other civilian universities.

Look into the Air National Guard, they will pay you while you train and pay all of your college with a nice monthly stipend while  a full time studdent. Stay close to home, get awesome job training, and a great experience that only the military can give you.

Yes, in that case, you get paid from day 1

And sensible is incorrect.  The military and college are NOT mutually exclusive, they are not two different things.  Most of your schooling and training is worth college credit, as is your On the Job training and work experience.  From there you can go to the air force community college,(or any other local or on base college) 100% tuition assistance while on active duty and work toward your degree.  It is no different than going to school and working a job!  PLUS there are several other programs available to test out of classes, on line classes, etc.

The military is a great choice if college is your goal because not only do you get the education and get it paid for, you get the experience to back up the piece of paper you hang on the wall!
