For the canadian forces. I read on their site that you get an increase in wage after 5 years....so you go from 30 thousand to 50 thousand. So do you get a promotion after every 5-10 years of service. Or would you stay a private for the rest of your military career ( staying in for 20 years and not getting a promotion)

  1. well dude every organization works on a pyramidal structure, the base, i.e. lower grade  workers are larger in number, and as u go up the pyramid the thickness decreases, i.e. lesser number of higher ranked officers. as far as the military is concerned, gettin 4-5 promotions is a massive deal in ur entire career, and those who join as combats, hardly get promoted.

  2. It all depends.  A promotion in rank is effected in many ways.  To be promoted you must show leadership abilities, be capable to lead, be quick of thought. It also helps to have decorations, and yes to have experience and time under their belt.

  3. ranked up? YOU mean promoted?!

  4. There are different times in rate (TIR) for each rank as well as performance markers you have to hit to be promoted.  Your pay is based both on rank as well as how long you have been in the military.  There is also High-End Tenure, which means that if you stay as a rank past a certain time, you will be required to resign from service.
