Do you get rid of your car insurance when you get a DWI?

I don't understand,.. when you get a DWI and license taken away, wouldn't you not need car insurance anymore for a year since you won't be driving your car? All the talk about having insurance go up etc, and $1000 added onto the bill every year, does the receiver of the DWI have to keep their insurance or something?

  1. You would need to get rid of that car. The Police computer can pick up late  D.U.I offenders that drove,  that car in the past. In other words, it has a History. Also, You will need a SR-22 insurance and can't own a car, for the next 2yrs.

  2. ask your company

  3. Is the car paid for?

  4. As long as you have a car with registration, you need to keep the insurance.

May sound funny, but there's a chance that you (or somebody you allow) will drive the car.  It is registered after all.

If you don't want to insure it, then turn in your plates too (and make sure you park you car in private land, like a drive way).

    Good Luck....

  5. For automobile insurance the quick way to get a low quote is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar options with the same deductibles, auto make, location, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have lots of insurers and can give several prices on auto insurance polices.
