  1. Depends on the department.

Some do get days off. For instance, Casino and Shop attendants while the ship is docked do not work.

So St. Petersburg, Russia is always 2 days off since all cruise ships have overnight there.

I've had overnights in several other ports such as Cape Town, Rio, Miami, Nassau, NYC (before 9/11), Salvador. Also for shop people there are late sails in which we left at 11pm or midnight, so we didn't work, such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Nice, Minorca, Lisbon, Rio, Salvador, Canaveral... and many more.

If you are a crew member such as a waiter or assistant you will get a part of the day off, some 6 hours or so.

Still it's brutal for crew positions.

Other staff positions such spa people, photo dept, reception, have rotations...

    good luck
