  1. Seat belts were designed for adults. Car seats were an afterthought and tried to be designed to work with seat belts.

The LATCH system was designed for car seats to make them much safer. I'll take the LATCH system over the seat belt system every time.

  2. LATCH is not safer than seatbelts. LATCH was invented to be more universal and convenient, though it has failed on both counts b/c of the differences between car seat manufacturers LATCH attachments and straps and vehicle's LATCH anchor placements and what weight they can hold. For instance: we're taught middle is safest, but on mostcars you can NOT use LATCH in the middle. The safest way to install the seat is using whatever gives you the best install, with less than 1" of movement at the belt path. It should not loosen up much over time.

  3. Seatbelts should lock into position.  Read the vehicle manual to see how yours lock or use a locking clip.

LATCH is not inherently safer than the seatbelt, it's just supposed to be easier.  Use whichever method gives you a more solid install (Less than one inch of movement at the belt path).

  4. All seat belts will loosing over a period of time that is why is is best to always check this everyday.......................
