  3. I have my students dissect frogs at the end of our unit on the human body.  

    99.99% of them really get into it.  :-)

    In high school I only ot to dissect a frog and a fetal pig.  In college I got to dissect all sorts of things:  snails, sea stars, sea urchin, cat, dogfish shark, rhesus monkey and a few other things.

    Didnt desensitize me at all Im a vegetarian and animal rights activist today ...and I can save an injured animal better than someone who knows nothing about their anatomy

  5. Yes, some classes also do earthworms, starfish, fetal pigs, cats...

  6. unfortunately, i did, 2 years ago.

    i thought these days they didn't let schools do that, but we had to dissect it.

    it was gross smelling and i felt so bad for the poor frog.

  7. Since the beginning of the politically correct generation, about 15 years ago, most high schools have not required animal dissection in biology class.  So you have to wait until you get to college.

  9. In my high school biology class, we dissected Frogs, Crayfish, Grasshoppers, Worms, and finally each student dissected a 2' shark.  That was in 1999 at a large public high school.

    Ultimately it depends on the school and teacher, though.

  10. I graduated in 2001 and they had us dissect a frog, worm, sheep eye, and pig fetus.
